Hey all,
So I’ve noticed a weird thing going on with the shadows in WoW where basically whenever I change my “Shadow Quality” option to something (in this case High) all looks great but as soon as I relog/restart the shadows become really blurry and lose the crisp edges.
Here are two pictures comparing before/after restart:
Before: imgur.com/FKPAIV7.jpg
After restart: imgur.com/bZHehm2.jpg
If you open both of the pictures and keep flicking between them you should be able to notice that the edges of the shadows on the second picture look worse than the first.
The only way to fix this is by swapping the shadow quality to another option, applying it and then swapping back, but obviously as soon as you relog/restart the issue returns so you kinda just have to deal with it.
I believe this is a bug so I’ve reported it in-game but I’m still interested to hear whether anybody else can reproduce this.

Hey Clarity,
Thank you for the bug report, that was the right thing to do. I can confirm that this is a known issue and is being worked on. Sorry for the confusion and trouble caused!
Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!
Reported this myself a while ago. It’s very ugly in places like Drustvar where the broken shadows are more obvious on the snow. It affects more than the just the quality too; the shadows get culled at a shorter distance and conform to a strange shape around your character.
I found the same bug on wow classic, im playing the stress test everytime i restart the game shadows turn blurry, its a bug with shadow resolution, i did a temporary fix with this macro /console set shadowTextureSize 2048 then i push it when i join the game and dont need to change shadow settings

Yep Couldin I noticed it was even worse than retail on classic WoW, dunno why this is so hard to fix if it’s a simple issue with the config file not saving settings
