No I am just determinate in my beliefs.
You dont have believes man, you have whims that change day to day.
Shadowlands was talked mousy by the same doom prophets that are now claiming that Midnight will flop. Same story for the past 15 years really.
They went all out with warcraft 3 characters during tbc and wotlk, it paid off because the game is still alive. They try to create new characters but writers are not capable so they fail, instead we get filler and temporary ones for 1 expansion.
Illidan will be used at some point again idk if there is any other character left from old times ![]()
Have you forgotten slaying Ysera in Legion just to save stupid temple building ? ![]()
Like they couldnāt sacrifice the Clown Duo Malfurion & Cenarius instead ā¦.
Dungeons were great but it was overshadowed by bad corruption grinding system
I think the shadowlands making the deadsā world this āsystematicā is already a big minus regardless of how the story went.
IMO underworld should never be discovered like this, especially most of them are just like Azeroth. This breaks the mystic veil between life and death
The expansion and clarifications regarding the World of Warcraft mythos and its cosmology in Shadowlands arguably seeks to make it more approachableāfor everyone.
What weāve seen is a heavy-handed compartmentalization of elements and aspects weāve known from before be recontextualized as part of a more nuanced and bigger picture. It provides a seriously robust and clearly divided set of rules that are seldom deviated from.
As a proponent of a lot of ancient philosophy and metaphysical writings, such as Platoās tripartite of the soul, or the classical elements and the Platonic solids ⦠I absolutely love it.
While I fully understand why it has landed the way it has with parts of the player base, Iād make the case that it is a wholly appropriate approach for the Warcraft franchise. And that in many ways honors the hyper-proportional and robust style it has and continues to portray visually to this day.
Furthermore, it distinguishes this narrative world from a many others.
In so far as the approachability is concerned, I was referring to how this is a fairly easy way to get an overview of this mythos and all of its moving pieces.
We now have more or less a clearly defined playbook. The story can go in more or less any direction within the parameters that have been set [or break them], but we as readers, players and watchers now seem to have at least solid idea as for what is out there.
By knowing the six cosmic forces we can extrapolate potential classes; we can speculate on future locations and planes we might visit; we can discuss potential pantheon figures.
| Name | Magic | Pantheon | Plane | Zereth | Greater powers | Lesser powers |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | Holy | Unknown | Unnamed plane | Unnamed | Unknown | Naaru |
| Void | Shadow | Unknown | Unnamed plane | Unnamed | Void lords | Old Gods |
| Life | Nature | Pantheon of Life | Realms of Life | Unnamed | Unknown | Wild Gods |
| Death | Necromantic | Pantheon of Death | Shadowlands | Zereth Mortis | Eternal Ones | Undead |
| Order | Arcane | Pantheon of Order | Unnamed plane | Zereth Ordus | Titans | Keepers |
| Disorder | Fel | Unknown | Twisting Nether | Unnamed | Unknown | Demons |

That said, the result of demystifying the circumstances surrounding death and the properties or beliefs of the afterlife in this mythos is something Iād definitely agree was and is a loss.
And the solution they might seemingly be aiming for [based on what weāve seen recently] seems to suggest that this all still exists yet that the Shadowlands might not be actual death. If I were to hazard I guess, I reckon the Purpose and the Grand Design [above] was put into place by the First Ones because they wanted to avoid that death.
They likely originate from our mortal planeāwherever or whichever form it might take in the cosmologyāoriginate from the Spirit of Life, and was so terrified of their mortal coil that they did whatever they could to avoid it.
Possibly to their detriment.

Regardless, my point is that I am of the belief that this makes it more approachable.
Not to mention that that kind of simplification likely was the plan.
The entire mythos of Warcraft fits in that neat little table up there. Not our connection to various places, or characters, events, soundtracks or any of that. It doesnāt necessarily simplify what the stories within this world could be either, or mean that they have to be simple neither. But everything can now be traced back to this reference guide.
And Iād say thatās kind of neat.
Azshara.
And Tyrande, Malfurion, Maiev, Jaina, Khadgar, Danath, Alleria, Tyralyon, Thrall, Rexxar, Rokhan, Chen, Uther [albeit as a Kyrian], Lady/Baroness Vashj [albeit as a Maldraxxi], Sylvanas.
I am probably forgetting plenty. Not only do several of these hail back from Warcraft II, but are also central characters to our current trilogy and relevant events in the game too.

Edit: Akama, Muradin, Cenarius, Medivh, Shandris, Baine, Gazlowe.
Again the main problem I have with it is they effectively taken the Agency out of everyone and diminished every small Victory Azeroth achieved. Frostmourne got shattered and all the souls it claimed are free. Oh wait nope. Tirionās shattering the Frostmourne basically supercharged the Maw because all souls collected there went straight to eternal damnation. It diminishes the madness of Sargeras and the Burning Legion and diminishes the achievement we made in defeating the Mad Titan because it was all a part of the plan. It finally diminishes Sylvanas fall, removes any nuance and somehow makes her even worse than Afrasabiās decision to make Her Garrosh 2.0 in BFA. Oh yeah and Elune is apparently a Machineā¦
Itās just grating to make everything that happened in WoW and Warcraft Universe just a one, way too over complicated and over engineered scheme.
I hereby lie flat on my back and accept that I was completely wrong. Yep, did him dirty, too.
Legendarily awful writing.
To be fair they did the same with Sylvanas in Blood Elf Heritage quest when we see her fight with Arthas. Who the hell power slides and puts themselves into the range of the obviously Melee fighter when their main weapon is a bow? Rule of cool I guess.
that is completely normal for panda . ![]()
I already said they ruined Sylvanas, you didnāt have to drive the point home further ![]()
Shadowlands was truly awful. Truly, truly awful. And the worst part is many of the people who worked on it are still there and theyāve driven several senior and far more talented artists at the company crazy.
Not really sure what to do about it. I donāt think anything can be done about it. So letās just laugh at it.
See, hereās where you sort of lose me.
Because when I read or play a story, I want to experience the story that the creator intended. Iām not there to have my wishes sated or my expectations fulfilled, I am there to be enthralled by the vision and intentions of that creator.
If a story happens to lead down a line I was hoping for or that I found myself rooting for, that might absolutely add something to that experience. But itād arguably be a bonus, something beyond that initial journey.
There are plenty of stories Iāve read, watched or followed where I have differing opinions or disagree with the direction taken by its creators. But I still respect those decisions. They had a vision or otherwise considered developments that I didnāt. And it might have had the consequence of a failed grossing target at the box office; lost subscribers in a service.
By all means, these kinds of things naturally might have consequences.
Yet I have not been slighted, I do not consider those individuals at any fault.
And by fault, I mean to a degree where they deserve punishmentāwhich is how I read your reply above. Weāre talking about art media. Entertainment. Writers and narrative designers.
To clarify, my astonishment is tied to the idea that the developers should [potentially; if that indeed was the suggestion] be removed or punished because a certain amount of players disagreeāand have been impacted to such a degreeāwith the direction taken for the story. Iād posit itās really certain aspects of the story, but I digress.
Or is the point that they instead be removed ⦠for the companyās benefit?
I agree, and I dont even like Sylvanas. But you have to agree, it was funny XD.
Ok, but what if the story is a continuation of another story, and the current ācreatorā straight up contradicts what the previous guy made? Like you talk about not neeting expectations, but what if the expectations are just dont contradict the previous events? Obv I have a lot more criticism of SL, but lets just keep limited to this one.
Oh it was. Though I liked her more when you could have see her actions as ruthless pragmatism born of Forsakenās unique problems with lack of reproduction rather than being pure evil or in League with Bald, Half Naked Blue man
I fear I donāt understand the question, sorry. Would it be possible to rephrase it?
