Hi All,
I’ve basically successfully finally convinced my brother to give WoW a go…However, with BFA basically being over and done with now, I want to get him ready for Shadowlands.
I’m looking at the possible options, and currently see no way of him being able to level to 120 (So that he squishes to 50 with the rest of us), without buying BFA first…He already has Legion from a previous late arrival attempt a couple of years ago, so he is able to reach 110 with the subscription alone. I find it a complete waste to spend £40 for the sake of 10 levels, then another £35 on the Shadowlands pre-order.
However, I have looked at the Shadowlands packages, and the Heroic one that costs £50, includes a 120 boost and a mount, which I find to be far more reasonable.
Now obviously BFA is unavailable to him…so is reaching 120 without BFA, so if he was use to this boost on his character, would that character become unavailable to him until the release of Shadowlands? Or will this allow him to level to 120, but just restrict him from the BFA content? As he still wishes to play in order to obtain skins etc while we wait for release.
TL/DR
- New Player
- Not worth buying BFA
- Want to buy Shadowlands Heroic Edition
- Does the 120 boost disable the use of his character due to not having BFA
Thanks!
You cannot buy any version of Shadowlands without buying BfA first, you cannot skip buying expansions, however you can buy the complete version which has both. We don’t know when Shadowlands is coming out, could be September, could be and more probably will be, December.
BfA MAY become free for everybody when the Pre patch hits, again we don’t know when that will be.
BfA comes with a level 110 boost, you can get Shadowlands nearer the release date if he likes the game. Levelling from 110 to 120 will help him learn the class he picks but personally I would get him to level from 1 to 120 first to get used to the game.
Also using a boost, either 110 or 120 will make most players not know what they are doing and they will also probably choose the wrong class for them and never play the boosted character. It’s a story I see all too often on the forums.
Getting to 40 or 50 will give people a taste of the class or if they have BfA they can use class trials.
Edit: one last thing, get him to join the realm you are on so you can help him with gold, items etc.
Please read the post before responding. I was simply asking about the implications of boosting to 120 without owning the BFA expansion at this current point time.
I did not once say anything about getting BFA content without purchasing it.
Simple, read my post, you can’t do that. You have to own BfA before getting shadowlands or levelling to 120 with or without a boost.

Jesus christ…i’ll try putting in plainer terms lol.
So right now…he is naturally capped at Lv.110. With me so far?
The SL:Heroic Edition, grants a 120 boost token…if he was to use this token (Still not owning BFA), will this disable his character since he is now over the naturally blocked 110 cap?
You don’t seem to understand, no level 120 in ANY FORM without BfA.

So could you point me to the fact sheet? Otherwise why is the Heroic edition available to purchase if he can’t use a boost to 120?
OK
Requires World of Warcraft®: Battle for Azeroth®, Internet connection, Blizzard® registration, and Blizzard® Battle.net® desktop application to play.
It’s on the page you buy shadowlands.
Edit: the ONLY order you can buy stuff in is a Trial account (this can be skipped), Legion (which is free when you add gametime), BfA, then Shadowlands. You cannot skip any steps except trial accounts.
I explained this in my first post, if you had read it instead of complaining.

Hey
The Heroic Edition is one of the Shadowland expansion pre purchase packages, to upgrade an account to Shadowlands it does need to previously have BFA, the requirements to upgrade to Shadowlands are here "“Requires World of Warcraft®: Battle for Azeroth®, Internet connection, Blizzard® registration, and Blizzard® Battle.net® desktop application to play.”
