Shadowlands Retribution Aura

I was wrong, they did make it an aura you have to choose. Seems useless.

Seems like people don’t know how this aura works.

When someone dies ALL paladins in the raid get wings for 12 seconds, yes that’s right 12 seconds.

I can’t see how people think that this is useless.
Of course you don’t want people to die, but people will die.
This will make it so that if you can recover, you recover faster because:
ret will be doing more dmg
holy will be doing more healing
prot will have more survivability and healing

This will make it so that one 1% tragic wipe doesn’t happen, it will help you push timings if one person is down, it will help you see phases earlier because you pushed more damage.

Now this will probably get nerfed, but only 1 paladin needs to have this aura active for all paladins to benefit.
This is a million times better than the old ret aura, which was always pretty crap.
It’s still early in the alpha and expect things to change.
Who knows, maybe they come up with a different aura and change it.

If it benefits every paladin, it still means…

1: If you’re the only paladin you still won’t end up using it.
2: If you have more paladins, you’re simply using it because the other useful auras are already taken.

That being said, if it does effect all paladins, that’s really darn OP. BUT! I totally think it would be hilarious to see a 25 Paladin raid, one person dies and AW pops for 24 other people.

Depends on the situation, if you have a moment where you know someone is gonna die because it’s part of the boss strat or something.
You can change it, get wings and change it back to a more useful aura.

Which is awesome imo. it incentivizes people to bring more than one paladin, which is sorely needed if holy or prot turn out to be really good.

Ye, I’d expect a nerf tbh. but let’s see how it’ll develop.
If it stays like that I can’t wait to see all the tears from people on the forums.

I would make it something maybe slightly boring, but that the whole raid benefits from, like an extra 3% Holy damage on every single target attack by any member of the raid/group.
So like it wouldn’t proc from any AoE or other cheesy ways of getting more damage than is meant from it.

I agree with this for some reason

That’s two GCDs doing nothing which diminishes the gains by a lot. And ideally you want to help your party members with bop/loh/wog instead of trying to get a little extra dmg in. As a passive Retribution worked fine, as an aura you have to active it doesn’t make much sense.

I think the Retribution passive will be removed.

Am I missing something here I thought you could swap aura mid fight. Makeingg the whole point of the aura oh dear someone is going to die quickly swap the ret aura then swap back to something else

People seems to be talking as if the aura is set in stone once the boss is pulled ?

Yeah, but if you knew that someone was about to die, you could potentially save them as a Ret with a Hand/offheal/Lay on Hands, but here it creates an ego playstyle where you think, I’ll let this guy die to get buffed.

To be fair I agree and good players will still safe people. Selfish players might take advantage of the system but personally I think it’s a good change. The sort of paladin that will use this to buff their own place on the meters is the sort of paladin that let people die anyway to proc retrabution

I main holy and I cannot tell you the amount of high keys where this would have been useful. There are deffinatly times when people will die and you can’t do anything about it

Look at this raid tier. On hive mind mythic If someone gets the 100% healing debuffs dureing feeling frenzie then nothing I can do will save them

Not to mention the amount of boss tactics that involve sacrificing someone

Selfish players will always exist. But let’s not design the game around them

I’m already preparing the popcorns for the inevitable video of a 20 man raid where 19 wings pop at the same time.

I expect holy will use it in m+ for the extra push in a hard pull where someone dies and they get a buff to keep the others up and get through.
For the others, marginal use or no use at all.
