The last 2 expansions, i used Elvui as my core UI, with some personal adaption for things like Weak auras, clique and DBM…
So whats wise, keep using ElvUI or create my own compilation for a more minimalistic interface…

Depends on how bored you are, and how much time you want to spend on updating your UI when it will inevitably break with 9.1.
I always say go with whatever you’re used to. I tried UI addons like ElvUI but I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. The whole screen felt too foreign, and while it obviously looks way better, I hated every second of it.
Personally I prefer the standard UI with the plates scaled up slightly and moved into the centre. I do use a threat plates addon, but that’s about it when it comes to changing the interface.
As Tink mentioned, the good thing about my setup is, I don’t have to worry about it breaking, ever.
My breaking comment was more of a caution for running your own UI build. Things like ElvUI usually get updated prior to big patches, so all you have to do is upgrade a couple of popular addons, and you’re done.
If you build your own, out of smaller pieces, some of which may be less popular, there’s a reasonable chance some of them will break with a future patch, and will not be updated in time.
Thats exactly my biggest worry…
As said, i think i will leave Elvui as the base, and keep working from there…
Using major addons like DBM, Weakaura’s, Clique in combination with Elvui… Which i also use in. BFA…
And replacing those parts i think that can be done better (like name plates, i prefer plater).
And some new ones…
Exorsus, Gladius, Gnosis, Details, tomtom…
