I think the amount of complaining on the forums doesn’t reflect the truth because most satisfied customers are actually playing the game, because when you look at it objectively this is truly the best expansion ever.
Covenants add a whole new dynamic to the game. There’s one to suit each type of personality. When you add up all the new covenant abilities added to the game it’s probably more than a new class, especially when you factor in uprunning. Being able to identify with your covenant and represent it proudly is basically an evolved version of factions.
Torghast is a blast. Some people say it’s boring but I think it’s because they’re doing it alone, in a group it’s the best innovation since m+. The crazy powers you get make you feel like a superhero.
Lore: The stories in SL touch you deeply because it’s not fluff, it’s about the fate of everyone’s freaking soul. The jailer is the most evil villain ever considering he wants to torture everyone for eternity, much more profound than some obscure octopus whispering in your ear. The Night Fae storyline brought tears to my eyes.
Zones: Blizzard went above and beyond, the zones feel majestic and like parallel universes.
PVP vendors: says enough.
Dungeons and raids: The mechanics keep getting more complex over time, and this is great especially in dungeons because past expansions’ m+ were snooze fests. I like having to actually use my brain now.
The Maw: For the first time Blizzard has managed to create open-world content that feels dangerous and intimidating, which brings back some of that old school MMORPG flavor.
There’s so much innovation in this expansion that Ion deserves the praise for creating this masterpiece, especially when you consider this was done during a pandemic.
Absolutely not. I did not like Covenants at all, I dreaded farming Torghast and gave up quickly, the story was… okay. The art and music is always brilliant. The worst part though, was not even a week into end game I found myself logging in, sighing, then logging straight back out. This has never happened to me before. I still enjoyed it but it’s at the bottom of my list.
Covenants as a story only thing and not linked to player power would have had Shadowlands received so much better, it’s nowhere near being the best though.
100% This. Shadowlands had the potential to be amazing, choose a side you liked, and lead them to victory. Instead it became about which one gave the most DPS, disappointing.
I also think the name “systemlands” has stuck to this expansion for a reason, please blizzard, simplify.
With Blizzard clearly taking the side of boosters (new channel coming specifically for them and lack of punishment for their spam) they should just rename the game to “World of Boosting”.
Never forget that if you swapped covenants you had to do two timegated quests. One per week. Like why?! Just why!!!
This is a game and should be a fun experience not torture. Many things in shadowlands felt exactly like that. But let’s be honest here they have started listening to community feedback quite alot. So for me dragonflight seems very promising. But if its another SL then I’m outta here for good. Simply not worth the time…
I am not gonna assume that you’re trolling for now but… in how many cases did their “innovative” ideas actually survive longer than one expansion and did not get forgotten by the devs?
