I am a 630 Shadowpriest with almost full hc bis. I get declined for all + 10s and 50% of + 8s. I have 2400 raiting and timed 10s with full guild group. I am a good player, rarely do mistakes and do good boss damage. Is Shadow that bad or is it just that meta classes mentality people have?
I think most people with your rating will have the exact same experience regardless of class. Since keys have a time limit people forming the group will always pick the highest rated/ metaspecs/ highest item lvl players to maximise the keys success and increase the speed of the key. You are competing for a spot against like 40 other applicants and with 10s being a popular choice for peoples vaults the problem is bigger because you have people (me included) who have a lot higher score and ilvl who will apply to theses 10s to speed run vault. It takes me a good 30mins-1hour of applications to get into 13 its a problem for every solo player in the game to get into keys.
Shadow is, in my opinion, in a weird spot for M+. It’s not a spec I would prioritize easily over others when inviting someone random for pug spots:
- Reliant on a cooldown to spread dots, an accidental pull / odd timing can be quite punishing
- A long cooldown on a hard silence, while frequent interrupts are quite important in most dungeons
- The lack of utility like TW/BL (although, you offer a mini version), CR, …
- This while adding not very much utility other than a stamina buff and some AoE heals once in a while, and still being mediocre in output
- Movement can be quite disruptive for the output
- …
There are simply less fault-prone options available. That, and 630/2400 by now isn’t anything special, together with the fact that tanks/healers are the primary issue (as in, lacking)…so groups tend to be much more picky when it comes to DPS specs/spots.

Gotta agree with the fella above. Ive recently came back to retail. The season is almost over.
I do exclusively run my own keys and let me tell you that even for +6 youre getting aplications from 3k+ players. Yes its alwqys with some naked anchor friend but that doesnt matter if youre not completely boosted noob then the one naked guy wont slow you down at all and the most valuable thing there is their xp.
So ye…i do believe youre capable of running higher keys but you wont fet inv with your score because there are people with like 600 more queing up for the same key.
Solution? Make your own group. Its not that hard and you can cherry pick ppl that will make your runs smoother.
With Disc taking a spot as a meta healer in the current season people tend to avoid using double classes. Preservation evoker has the same issue with Aug usually taking the spot. Fortunately for you, they broke Disc and Holy and Shadow has a great tier set for the next season.
