this started in pandaria i believe. and got to its absolute worst state ever in BFA.
It’s always been more or less pay to win. Now it’s significantly more apparent.

Boosting does not generate new gold in the economy.
It also doesnt deduct gold from the economy…
So how exactly it affects the economy?
Gold is just exchanging hands… it has absolutely no impact on the people not buying or selling boosts.
Boosts dont prevent you to do the content yourself or farm the gold… Stop being jelous.
There is also the factor that there will be people who will always want a “shortcut” aka…boost. And if there is a demand, there will be a supply.
Basic economy 101.
Blizzard is not making a huge marketing campaign to tell everyone to buy boosts and stuff.
So ultimately not sure what we want to accomplish here.
If a farmer John…wants to get boosted to X.
I can say NO
You can say NO…
Well…he will keep looking until he finds a person who says YES and boosts him.
I really doubt the boosting scene wouldn’t be so “booming” as some would call it…if there wasn’t a player demand for it?
Even if it weren’t affecting the economy that’s not true. From boost spam in trade and LFG to creating boosted players who don’t actually learn game mechanics. Partying with people like that can’t be a lot of fun.
And stop with this p2w non-sense.
Each of you crying p2w… You could get the best possible gear (made in an editor), like godly stuff… Get in method team to go for world first (theorethicaly, obv they wouldnt want you around)… And you would be dead on the floor 90% of the time if not more.
Is that the kind of win you can buy? And keep in mind you cant buy editor made godly gear… So your “win” would be even more pathetic.
Stop looking for external reasons why you dont perform and start improving.
it’s about the principles of a proper and fair game design.
Why do you think cheating is prohibited in most games? a lot of people like cheating. It gives them the feeling of superiority. But it reduces the skill requirement of the game and ruins it for others.
Now in wow, since generally speaking end game isn’t something that people influence one another much, boosting to an extent, could more or less be considered fine.
However, blizzard should have put limitations on it. Not let it go rampant and reach the state it currently is at.
In an MMO type game like wow, sense of achievement is something that people are looking for. For it to be watered down because every single person with an access to mommy’s credit card can achieve the same thing as them, is a bad feeling overall.
It’s not about jealousy either. This is just bad game design.
To make you realize this better, imagine if it was blizzard who advertised raid boosts and other stuff, instead of players. Then how would you feel? Wouldn’t it upset you, make you feel the game is pay to win, and wouldn’t you have bashed blizzard for this? Now it’s basically the same thing only with a middle man.
Doubt Blizzard cares much for Boosting for PvE content, but you’re doing PvP Boosting as that impacts on other players directly… and I am pretty sure Blizzard has a stance against that.
When i do my keys at this point i just straight out ignore people with less than 30 runs of +15 in time. I never see this mythological high Rio boosted players.
And for the spam in trade… I wouldnt know, i am a boomer so my skin is quite thick… Using the internet since early 90s made me immune to all kinda of spam. Also i never hang in the city.
If you are bad with your arena partner(s) and a bad player + booster can defeat you, then I think the problem isnt the boost
That is irrelevant, it’s a ranked system.
But also boosting as been pretty much “born the same day as MMORPG genre was born”. Even in guilds or among friends people got boosted. Yet nobody bat an eye?
I personally doubt this was intentional game design. Its simply a design players wish to play at. Like I said before. If a farmer John wants to get boosted. He WILL find a way to do so? Blizzard bans boosting for gold in general, ok boosters will invite to a guild and just say" We are boosting our new friend/guildy and he is being extremely generous and wants to make gold donation).
You are screaming at Blizzard for not having a mind control device pretty much. They CANT control farmer John and brainwash him to not look for a boost if he wants to?
Edit: Also banning boosting can be tricky? How will Blizzard know that he was getting boosted or not?
If you dont have purple/orange/pink parses on logs = you were boosted = BAN NOW! Or something?
Come back when you can buy world first or rank 1 Rio “with your mommys credit card”.
My mum doest even buy me shoes, let alone some wow boost. I am sure she would kick me if i even asked.
If you ment your watered down curve or weekly +15… That is nothing special to begin with, so hardly watered down by any means. Its just mediocre. At best.
oh. so the achievement of one single guild in the world being an exception means everything else that’s hard in the game is irrelevant.
You should work for blizzard dude. Just like them, you think around 0.01% and ignore the other 99.99%
There’s a difference between letting them loose and failing to stop them completely. If they make aimhack free to use, a first person shooter game will become unplayable in a matter of days. But if they ban them all, some will slip. Just because those slipping ones are hard to detect or stop, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have done so.
The difference beeing. That will make anyone god-mode skilled. Of course aim-hacks should be fought against. How does boosting make you “better”? will a complete clueless Ben getting carried through +15 for example suddenly make him better?
Fixed it for u.
Anyways, what’s wrong with that?
Well it goes like this…
There is hundred of thousends of people running the sprint… yet there is only one winner at each Olympics… Most of us can recall the name of the victor. Maybe some know who came second or third… and someone came 8th… Even the 8th place can be a tremendous PERSONAL achievement for someone… but in the ordinary scale of things 8th place is trash… you could say that everyone participating is a winner, but i doubt most participants see it that way.
And its not about 0,01%… its the simple fact that there is only one place at the top… Sorry pal, i know its 2020 and we are all special snowflakes who want to win at everything… but the point of winning, is, well, winning. Coming first. Getting the ONE slot.
You or me may not be the contenders for the prestigious accolade of world 1st, so we can find ourselves some PERSONAL achievements… which wont be anything special in the ordinary scale of things.
And mind you… the “ignored” 99.99%… is anyone stopping them from attempting world 1st or becoming the fastest sprinter in the world? Should blizzard make a special snowflake system so we all could be the best? How would that even work…
No, but it makes you who wants to pug things with random people consider them skilled enough to be able to pull through only to be massively disappointed in the process.
There are consequences in every game. Boosting in this game has consequences too. and not just for economy. For every activity. If everyone can be ahead of the curve, then it no longer matters. If everyone can get to 470 gear, then it’s nothing special anymore. It reduces the incentive for a lot of players as well.
Ok. So now we are drifting into “special-snowflake” syndrome? If people don’t worship me cause I killed a big bad nztohy…then “its not special” anymore?
You killed it, whenever with a guild or pugs or what ever and thats that. What does it matter if some clueless Ben also killed him? Will your “worshiper” flock suddenly go to him or something?
Everyone with 2 hands and 2 eyes (or less) can get curve, thats a fact. People not getting it didn’t even try. Same goes for 470 gear. So yes, those are nothing special already, even without boosts.
If you want an incentive… improve your game. Hows that for an incentive? You think you reached your limit? Of course you didn’t. Sky is the limit, why settle for something as bland as curve or some 470 gear thats obsolete every few months anyway.
It’s a sense of achievement. I’m sure you’ve felt it in your life at some point.
How would you feel if you worked for something hard and succeeded, only to see 5 other people who paid to get the same thing you tried so hard for, effortlessly?
plus, this is just one of the side effects. i already mentioned a bunch of them before.
can you stop? You’re getting annoying. We get it. You’re a god, and nothing is too hard for you in this game. You can close your eyes and kill nzoth with one hand while drinking coffee with the other.
Most people in this game however aren’t part of a decent guild and have to pug things with a bunch of randoms. Try getting curve with them. Then talk about how easy it is.
