It would be good to have a rune to allow shamans to use plate mail next phase, possibly part of the existing tank rune.
Plate generally has strength and stam stats and we would then share gear with warriors similar to paladins would next phase. Horde will only have one plate wearer next phase with the stats we need. Its too late to have mail for shamans this phase which would have made leathers less contested. As hunters want agility and not strength you would need additional items to be added for shamans when we are much closer to stats with warriors.
making the majority of the armour we get RNG base (+30% per stack) on block and having the highest armour shield you can get your hands on makes the rest of the armour values on gear fairly irrelevent. This would make duel wield as a high threat alternative have more base armour.

Blizzard: best I can do is agi / AP mail gear.
I do agree though, it would help with gearing and would also contribute to shamans remaining a viable tank. If things stay the same there’s just going to be less and less reason to bring a shaman instead of a warrior tank who will do many times the damage of the shaman while at the same time being a lot more tanky.

Also meant to say plate generally has the +defence and block gear which again making mail ones just for shamans would make less sense than utilising existing tanking gear.

You could use plate gear for wars, pal and enhance/tank shaman.

Sounds like a waste of a rune to me.
I don’t think defense will be an issue in SoD, threat on the other hand - and plate is usually not very good as far as offense/threat goes.
It wouldn’t really matter if the pieces are not good enough.
Right now the “meta” is to wear everything that gives you even 1 dps more, because some streamer said in a youtube video that this is bis.
Even if shamans could wear plate, nothing will stop them from rolling and equipping a leather item if it gives them 5 dps more, it will just be a waste of time to make new items, and flood the boss drop table with them, making them a “dead” drop if nobody can wear them.
For example - balance druids are rolling for the cloth set in BFD, because apparently some streamer said that it is “bis” because it gives 1 more spell power than the leather set. Who cares if mages/priests/warlocks can wear only cloth and if on the next boss the leather piece drops and it gets vendored.
As for the tankiness - there haven’t been a boss so far that requires the tank to be geared for defense, and I don’t think we will get bosses like that.
+def and str XD sounds like u have no idea how a shaman tank gearing works. You literally compete against hunters in P2 lol
If shamans are to gain access to plate (because why not?), throw the paladins a bone too by giving them a totem-like skill (maybe a banner or standard or something)

Haha, well maybe defence is overkill expectation but strength is a core stat to my understanding now we are wanting block value, 2 ap per str for threat. Agility which would be common on the hunter gear seems less desierable.
Bear in mind paladin tanking gear would be good for us now too. Just seems mail gear is stated much worse for us.
you can generalise that, as things are, there will be less and less reason to bring a shaman for any role.
This would certainly solve some issues with shaman tank imho.
Without changes or new gear, they are looking at using agility as their main defensive stat, which will increase dodge chance which due to their rune Shield Mastery they want to be blocking more than they are dodging fir the mana return.
Adding new gear (outside of tier and sets) for one class is annoying. Its bad enough having holy pally gear drop as a horde (at least resto shaman gear can be used by holy paladins)

Yes, because paladins have been starved of new stuff for SoD. I feel bad for them.

I don’t know about that. Resto will probably be fine, ele might go decent as well. But it’s looking pretty grim for enhance both as dps and tank.
resto isnt fine, even with chainheal, its an inferior healer to priest, and you don’t need to bring them anymore because feral has a better version of windfury. for ele, well ele is a caster, but worse due to lb being fast casting, so benefits less from spellpower, and no debuff to reduce nature resistance.
I would love for classes to be stuck with only 1 armor type.
If you have plate passive skill, you cannot wear leather and cloth.

Yeah but this cannot really happen in classic
