Im going to be moving back Shaman as a main in Shadowlands. i mained shaman from when i started in bc until BFA and as much as i like shaman i cannot ignore some of the red flags. So in this post im going to tackle the comparison of class and spec defensives. I will not be covering tanks, this is purely a dps and healer comparison.i did not include healing cds this is purely defensive. Below is a list of every classes/specs defensive options be in baseline,talent , or pvp talents
So now ive complete the list we can see that every shaman spec have the worst defensive toolkit in terms of power of cooldowns and quantity of cooldowns in the entire game. The main defensive cooldown is self only and not usable while cc’d while most cds in that variation can be used as externals and/or while cc’d. Ele has 1 defensive 2 if talented, enhance has 1 and resto has basically 2 and the worst in class “external” if you want to try and compare spirit link to something like pain sup,blessing of sac, guardian spirit etc. Every Sham spec is so severely outclassed in terms of defensive options and power compared to their counterparts i was hoping a write up like this could help people and hopefully blizz visualize just how bad shamans could use some defensive help

Earthern Wall Totem RESTO ONLY - Summons a totem with x health for 15 sec. y damage from each attack against allies within 10 yards of the totem is redirected to the totem. 1 MIN CD. Turns out to be a pretty small % dmg reduction and you and allies must stay within the small radius
Nature’s Guardian - When your health is brought below 35%, you instantly heal for 20% of your maximum health. Cannot occur more than once every 45 sec.
Astral Shift - Shift partially into the elemental planes, taking 40% less damage for 8 sec. 1.5 MIN CD.
Spirit Link Totem -RESTO ONLY- Summons a totem at the target location for 6 sec, which reduces damage taken by all party and raid members within 10 yards by 10%. Every 1 sec the health of all affected players is redistributed, such that all players are at the same percentage of maximum health. 3 MIN CD
Spirit Link - PVP TALENT - RESTO ONLY -You link yourself and two closest allies within 15 yards together. When linked targets take damage, 25% is distributed among the other linked allies. Linked targets receive 100% increased healing from your Chain Heal and Healing Rain. Lasts for 24 sec. THIS REPLACES RESTOS MAIN CD
Harden Skin -ELE ONLY AND REQUIRES A TALENT - The Primal Earth Elemental hardens its own skin and the Shaman’s skin into pure granite, reducing all damage taken by 40% for 10 sec. 5 MIN COOLDOWN

2 cc breaks/immunities for duration, magic immunity, %dmg received healing, 1 external group/raid defensive
Anti Magic Shell Surrounds you in an Anti-Magic Shell for 5 sec, absorbing up to x magic damage and preventing application of harmful magical effects. Damage absorbed generates Runic Power. 1 MIN CD
Icebound Fortitude - Your blood freezes, granting immunity to Stun effects and reducing all damage you take by 30% for 8 sec. USEABLE WHILE STUNNED 3 MIN CD
Deathstrike - Physical damage and heals you for 25% of all damage taken in the last 5 sec, minimum 7% of maximum health. SPAMMABLE
Sacrificial Pact - Sacrifice your ghoul to deal (75% of Attack power) Shadow damage to 8 nearby enemies and heal for 25% of your maximum health.2 MIN CD
Lichborne - Draw upon unholy energy to become Undead for 10 sec, increasing Leech by 10%, and making you immune to Charm, Fear, and Sleep. Can heal with Death Coil while active. 2 min CD
Anti-Magic Zone - Places an Anti-Magic Zone for 10 sec that reduces spell damage taken by party or raid members by 20%. 2 MIN CD

Blur - Increases your chance to dodge by 50% and reduces all damage taken by 35% for 10 sec. 1 MIN CD
Darkness - Summons darkness around you in an 8 yd radius, granting friendly targets a 20% chance to avoid all damage from an attack. Lasts 8 sec. 3 MIN CD
Soul Fragments - Heals for 20% of max health for bigger ones . Lesser Soul Fragments UNSURE. Created through interactions with your class.
Demonic Wards - Your tattoos reduce magic damage taken by 10%.PASSIVE
Soul Rending - Leech increased by 10%. Gain an additional 10% Leech while Metamorphosis is active. TALENT
Netherwalk - Slip into the nether, increasing movement speed by 100% and becoming immune to damage, but unable to attack. Lasts 5 sec. TALENT 2 MIN CD

Bear Form - Shapeshift into Bear Form, increasing armor by 220% and Stamina by 25%. SPAMMABLE/UNLIMITED DURATION
Ironfur - Increases armor by (75 * Agility / 100) for 7 sec. SPAMMABLE
Frenzied Regen - Heals you for 24% health over 3 sec. 36 SEC HASTED CD
Ironbark - RESTO ONLY The target’s skin becomes as tough as Ironwood, reducing all damage taken by 20% for 12 sec. 1.5 MIN CD
Renewal - Instantly heals you for 30% of maximum health. Usable in all shapeshift forms. 1.5 MIN CD TALENT

Roar of Sacrifice - PVP TALENT -Instructs your pet to protect a friendly target from critical strikes, making attacks against that target unable to be critical strikes, but 20% of all damage taken by that target is also taken by the pet. Lasts 12 sec. 1 MIN CD

Alter Time - Alters the fabric of time, returning you to your current location and health when cast a second time, or after 10 seconds. Effect negated by long distance or death. 1 MIN CD 30 SEC FOR ARCANE WITH TALENT
Temporal Shield - PVP TALENTARCANE ONLY Envelops you in a temporal shield for 4 sec. 100% of all damage taken while shielded will be instantly restored when the shield ends. 45 SEC CD

Prismatic Barrier - ARCANE ONLY Shields you with an arcane force, absorbing X damage and reducing magic damage taken by 15% for 1 min. The duration of harmful Magic effects against you is reduced by 25%. 25 SEC CD
Blazing Barrier - FIRE ONLY Shields you in flame, absorbing x damage.Melee attacks against you cause the attacker to take (12.5% of Spell power) Fire damage. 25 SEC CD
Ice Barrier - FROST ONLY Shields you with ice, absorbing X damage.Melee attacks against you reduce the attacker’s movement speed by 50%. 25 SEC CD

Fortifying Brew - Turns your skin to stone for 15 sec,increasing your current and maximum health by 15% and reducing all damage you take by 15%. 2 MIN CD
Invoke Yulon - Mistweaver only - Summons an effigy of Yu’lon, the Jade Serpent for 25 sec. Yu’lon will heal injured allies with Soothing Breath, healing the target and up to 2 allies for x over 4.5 sec. 3 MIN CD
Revival - Mistweaver only - Heals all party and raid members within 40 yards for x and clears them of all harmful Magical, Poison, and Disease effects. 3 MIN CD
Cocoon - Encases the target in a cocoon of Chi energy for 12 sec, absorbing x damage and increasing all healing over time received by 50%. 120 SEC CD 95 SEC CD WITH TALENT
Touch of Karma - Absorbs all damage taken for 10 sec, up to 50% of your maximum health, and redirects 70% of that amount to the enemy target as Nature damage over 6 sec. Heals for 100% redirected WITH TALENT. 1.5 MIN CD
Inner Strength - TALENT -Each Chi you spend reduces damage taken by 2% for 5 sec, stacking up to 5 times.PASSIVE
Diffuse Magic - TALENT - Reduces magic damage you take by 60% for 6 sec, and transfers all currently active harmful magical effects on you back to their original caster if possible. 1.5 MIN CD
Dampen Harm - TALENT - Reduces all damage you take by 20% to 50% for 10 sec, with larger attacks being reduced by more. 2 MIN CD

Blessing of Sacrifice - HOLY ONLY -Blesses a party or raid member, reducing their damage taken by 30%, but you suffer 100% of damage prevented.2 MIN CD
Divine Protection - HOLY ONLY - Reduces all damage you take by 20% for 8 sec. 1MIN CD. USABLE WHILE STUNNED???
Aura Mastery - HOLY ONLY - Empowers your chosen aura for 8 sec. Devotion Aura all parties members take 15% reduced damage for 8 seconds. Concentration Aura all parties members are immune to silence and interrupts for 8 seconds
Lay on Hands - Heals a friendly target for an amount equal to your maximum health. 10 MIN CD NOT USABLE IN ARENAS

Leap of Faith - Pulls the spirit of a party or raid member, instantly moving them directly in front of you. 1.5 MIN CD
Power Word Shield - Shields an ally for 15 sec, absorbing X damage. You cannot shield the target again for 7.5 sec.
Pain Suppression - DISC ONLY - Reduces all damage taken by a friendly target by 40% for 8 sec. Castable while stunned. 3 MIN CD
Guardian Spirit - HOLY ONLY -Calls upon a guardian spirit to watch over the friendly target for 10 sec, increasing healing received by 60% and preventing the target from dying by sacrificing itself. Spirit of Redemption - Upon death, you become the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. You cannot move, attack, be attacked, or be targeted by any spells or effects, and your healing spells cost no mana. When the effect ends, you die.
Spirit of the Redeemer - PVP TALENT - Your Spirit of Redemption is now an active ability with a 3 minute cooldown, but the duration is reduced by 8 sec and you will no longer enter Spirit of Redemption upon dying. 3 min CD
Divine Ascension - PVP TALENT - You ascend into the air out of harm’s way. While floating, you are only able to cast Holy spells. 1 MIN CD

Cheat Death - TALENT - Fatal attacks instead reduce you to 7% of your maximum health. For 3 sec afterward, you take 85% reduced damage. Cannot trigger more often than once per 6 min.
Vanish - Allows you to vanish from sight entering stealth from combat and for 3 seconds after entering stealth damage and harmful effects received will not break stealth. also breaks movement impairing effects. 2 MIN CD
Soothing Darkness - SUB ONLY TALENT - You heal 3% of your maximum health every 1 sec while Stealth or Shadow Dance is active.
Leeching Poison - Adds a Leeching Poison effect to your Deadly Poison and Wound Poison, granting you 10% Leech.12% with Master Poisoner talent

Dark Pact - Sacrifices 20% of your current health to shield you for 250% of the sacrificed health plus an additional (Spell power * 0.4) for 20 sec. Usable while suffering from control impairing effects. 1 MIN CD
Nether Ward - PVP TALENT - Surrounds the caster with a shield that lasts 3 sec, reflecting all harmful spells cast on you. 45 SEC CD
Destro Mastery - Your spells deal 8.0% increased damage, plus a random amount of up to 8.0% additional increased damage.You take 1.7% reduced damage, plus a random amount of up to 1.7% additional reduced damage. PASSIVE SCALES WITH MASTERY

Ignore Pain - Fight through the pain, ignoring 50% of damage taken, up to x total damage prevented.
Rallying Cry - Lets loose a rallying cry, granting all party or raid members within 40 yards 15% temporary and maximum health for 10 sec. 3 min CD 30% MAX HP AND 1 MIN CD WITH PVP TALENT MASTER AND COMMANDER
Intervene - Run at high speed toward an ally, intercepting all melee and ranged attacks against them for 6 sec while they remain within 10 yds. 30 SEC CD
Enraged Regeneration FURY ONLY- Reduces damage taken by 30%, and Bloodthirst restores an additional 20% health. Usable while stunned. Lasts 8 sec. 2 MIN CD
Die by the Sword ARMS ONLY- Increases your parry chance by 100% and reduces all damage you take by 30% for 8 sec. 2 MIN CD
Defensive Stance ARMS ONLY- A defensive combat state that reduces all damage you take by 20%, and all damage you deal by 10%. Lasts until cancelled.
