Shaping Fate, general feeling about Shadowlands (casual)

I have a full time job and I am 34 years old. I remember that in my “prime time”, I could do both raiding and whatever else WoW had to offer. These days, I play mostly during weekend and depending on the week, during the week as well. I don’t, like, ever create topics, so sorry for a lengthy one. I just hope feedback is useful.

These days, I am leveling some alts on alliance side to learn more about the story, as I never really played much there and gearing some alts on Horde side.
However, I still mostly play with my warlock as it has been my main for years.
As such, I kept collecting things on warlock and I do so in Shadowlands.

Currently, it feels that is much more enjoyable to wait a few weeks and then play WoW.
Due to catch up mechanics.

I want to clarify - I am not saying I am enjoying WoW more when I leave it for short period of time. What I am saying is that doing quests like “Shaping Fate” which is a weekly one and 1000 anima are…

I am trying to express my self correctly but I think word “stupid” is the best I can do right now. It feels like I am spending too much time on content with meaningless rewards.

When I am done with catch up mechanic, I have 1000 anima and “Shaping Fate” quests which grants 2x renown total. 1000 anima quest is not really that much of a problem now, I’d say its far better once I started getting 500 anima on weekly world boss kill.

However, Shaping Fate quest is too much annoying.

Shaping Fate

For me, it feels much better to do all of side content (world quests, world bosses, heroic dungeons etc.) to get renown from whatever I do but in order to play like that, I have to wait minimum 2 weeks for catch up mechanic to allow me to play like that.

With catch up mechanic done, Shaping Fate quests asks of me to do quests (including the Maw covenant events), treasure hunting and rare boss kills,

Just to get:

  • 1x renown
  • 1x loot cache (which does not necessarily drop an upgrade)
  • Anima
  • Stygian ember, which I don’t really have use of.

Problem with this, for me at least, is that:

  1. In the Maw, some rares are easier to access and some are not. Some will die before you even reach them. I am not even hunting rares for anything they can drop, I just try to find some to get the freaking quest done faster so that I can play other features of the game.

  2. In Korthia, rare bosses and daily quests are closer to each other and it’s easier to cover area. But, there are times where I don’t want to hunt rare bosses or hunt treasures and I’d rather just do daily or world quests.

If I am not doing all of what I CAN do for Shaping Fate quest, I cannot complete quest within a day and if I want to complete it within a day, I have to spend hours doing it.

So, I have to ask:

  1. Why Shaping Fate quest, asks of us to do so much for such trivial rewards?
  2. Isn’t it better to have Shaping Fate unlocked across all of Shadowlands instead of just 2 zones?

I mean, I surely won’t die in Agony because I do not complete Shaping Quest per week but it’s annoying to leave 1 single quest out just because it takes more time than anything else which falls under “chore” category and rewards do not feel adequate for time spend doing it.

By the time I am done with all the “chores”, I loose all will to venture into random battlegrounds or LFR or playing with alts.

When catch-up-mechanic is active, it feels that, to actually “catch-up” takes equal amount of time as if I would do 1 or 2 Shaping Fate quests but with catch up mechanic, I didn’t do just 1 quest but lots of other things like, covenant quests for valor, dungeons etc.

There were times when this was a norm for World of WarCraft, doing whatever you want, without sense of lacking anything.

RENOWNS

I am currently on renown 71, so that means 9 more to go.
In these 9 renowns that is left, it feels and looks like these soulbind upgrades that come with each next renown, are not really much of an upgrade to raiders as I am sure they should be able to complete mythic already with current renown.

But there are upgrades to world quest item levels and anima gain. World quest item level is definitely going to affect players like me and it’s good upgrade but it feels that in 9 renowns, that is the ONLY upgrade to look forward to because gear upgrades can show up anywhere in Shadowlands and Soulbind upgrades buffs are like 50dps increase, which is small.

Soulbind upgrades feels like someone granted you a socket and gave you a gem and told you to be extremely happy about it.

I am not sure if I am being clear enough but I want and I have a desire to go into battlegrounds, raids, torgast (maybe not so much) and timewalking dungeons during actual content but there are things that just take too much time for someone like me to be able to play these features that I prefer and “workaround” for that is to wait minimum 2 weeks.

For me, I think it’s very important how a player feels during his/hers gameplay time. It’s far better to enjoy and have fun than not to, regardless of what the reward is.

I will correct you on this one, Its best if you skip 90% of the expansion and only start playing towards the veeery end when all catch up and restrictions are in place.

And I do not mean any offence by this, but by Blizzards logic (and I do mean they have said that) this is the case because the wanted to “help” people like yourself that do not have a lot of time to play and so they implemented the timegates and catch up in order for you to not feel left out. Be sure to send your thank you letter to Ion and team.

Currently max renown is 72 (you are just one behind) and we get 2 per week (so 4 more weeks till max). It’s not much of an upgrade to anyone, its just filler so we had new 40 renown to wait for… I mean earn. Anyway the level 80 renown reward will be that we will be able to switch our covenants without a downside (when 9.1.5 hits, probably the week we reach 80), which could be considered a huge power gain depending on covenant.

Well, just do what you wanna do, I mean renown is stupid and the rewards from it atm are trivial at best.

Pretty sure the Maw World boss and whichever assault is up both give 25% completion towards shaping fate. That’s half already.

After I usually run around looking for the treasures and killing any rares along the way.
45-1hr or so, ez pz.

Yep
Both are a huge %
And you don’t have to do Shaping on reset day
You have a whole week to do so… :eyes:
Everything from rares to quests to chests and mushrooms give % in Korthia
45min/1h even without the wb/assault generally enough to do it, if you do it with one go (plus, as a side bonus, you will gather enough Anime for the other weekly)

You can easy complete in 1 day. Kill the same boss many times will fill up your bar towards shaping fate but you dont get loot more than once. How easy can that quest be?

Maybe I should have added somewhere in the original post - “PLEASE BLIZZARD DON’T DO THIS AGAIN” or something like that.

I was not saying that its difficult. Its very easy to do it but just because its that easy, it doesn’t make sense that it takes 1 hour to do it.

I mean, lets draw a line and say that it takes 1 hour to do it. For me, that means 1 hour less on things I’d rather be doing and during week, 1 hour means a lot.

Maybe, it will help if I give more insight about my life - Often enough, I would be working 12 hours per day and then, since I don’t live with parents or anyone else that can do things for the apartment while I am at work, I have to spend things on daily chores and then on top of that, I have to get into the game and check “what I have not done this week” and see “OH GOD ITS SHAPING FATE /EXIT GAME”.

Now, it can happen I chain 12 hours, 3 days per week or go full week like that. Then weekend comes and then I have to spend same time, which I did not spend during week, on same quest.

As such, quest like shaping fate, I split it into 3 days and this is probably just my thing but I’d really like if I did not have 1 quest, that is VERY EASY TO DO, hanging in my quest log for 3 days.

Part of my feedback was - “Running around and killing same bosses over and over again, just to fill up that bar is not really an enjoyable process”.

Sure, it is a way to do it, as it claims in the quest description but I think it would be far better if it was more flexible.

So the thing bothering you is it stays there for 3 days? Seems a bit silly.

If you do it on Saturday I think you can do it in less than an hour with:

  • World boss
  • Rare WQ
  • Do first assault, wait reset and do 2nd assault.

Plus if the reward itself is useless for you, why are you doing it exactly?

If I thought that reward was useless, I wouldn’t say that “world quest ilevel upgrade affects people like me” because it does and that is a reason to get it.

Another thing I was point out was, that it is better to wait for catch up mechanic to get (for example) 6 renowns in one day and still reach the renown cap, rather than doing 1 quest (or 2) to get just 1 or 2 renowns for whole week.

In my case that is 1 for whole week, because I am giving up on shaping fate quest. As I said, reward for shaping fate quest does not feel adequate for time that I have to spend doing it. Because, it feels better to spend 1 hour getting 6 renowns, than getting 1 renown for equal amount of time.

I just think that this crap can be done a lot better and probably avoided completely. I am quite aware of current choices I have before me. I just don’t like them at all in the way that I have to do them in order to feel appealing.

You can completely ignore Korthia weekly and simply use catchup mechanics next week doing callings or world boss. You will be behind 1 renown and will hit max 1 week later, but wont have to do Korthia if you dont want.

I don’t think a random single 213 pieces is worth it if it is bothering you so much actually.

Might as well do some Mythic 0 and you would prolly get more pieces in less time.

Because really, 1 renown behind is negligible, you don’t need the embers, so really you keep doing all that for a 213 random piece.

It’s not worth it at all for you.

Some weeks i just dont finish it, then i finish it next week. You dont have to finish it, its ok just to ignore it and wait for it to passively be filled. Is it a boring chore? Yes it is. But i wouldnt say its mandatory to do every week if you dont want to.

Jup, that’s a trend I observe too. Before the content of an expansion became outdated when the next expansion hit, nowadays the content of the previous patch becomes outdated with the next patch.

Why not let us play the whole game? I want to run dungeons, do some callings and WQs in between, maybe even go CN again for fun… but no, all of that stuff doesn’t reward the currencies you now need for 9.1. It just limits the whole content unnecessarily. I don’t understand it either.

Altough, probably it’s because some no-live grinders could get too much curency that way. Well, maybe instead give us a (flexible) cap for currencies per week but give it for all possible activities? That would be nice.

PS: I also have to say that the catch ups nowadays are a litte over the top? Or at least the “normal” grind is just underwhelming. I had a good time during BfA, because I only returned to the game shortly before 8.3 droped. Now with SL I actually feel it would have been better if I waited for 9.3 (if we ever get there) before playing. Would be much more efficent, because the catch up stops you from wasting time wirth a lot of grinds that are made far easier later into the expansion.

Why complete it in a day? It’s a weekly quest.
When I do it (I take weeks off, this week is an off week) I pick it up on Wednesday and pick up all the daily quests. I do any that aren’t annoying (no spineless flying things etc.) usually four a day. Whilst doing those I usually find a chest or a rare (I don’t hunt them, if I’m near one I’ll just partake). I don’t do the Maw stuff (Hate the Maw). I’m always done on friday (three days of less annoying dailies and the odd rare or chest).
Then I ignore Korthia until the following week (or maybe two weeks later).

I’m ultra casual and Shaping Fate takes me less than half the allocated time for it.
I’m only half way through Tier 3 of Codex (might never see tier 6,depends on 9.1.5 speed up) and have almost all the Korthia gear equiped (still on 190 legendary boots and missing a trinket and neck piece).

It’s not great content and I doubt I’ll be doing it on any alts. Not sure what I’ll do for alts, as I don’t have any stygia left after campaign took me to the Maw and I lost it all. I don’t see the Korthia BoA gear as a viable option for me as Stygia is not that easy to come by if (like me) you don’t go to the Maw.

My personal issues with shaping fate is that they nerfed it so hard

Bfa : 1500 rep emissaries, 850 rep daily wq in mechagon with minimal effort and time, but it was on a weekly lockout so it worked out

Shadowlands : longer & grindier and gives you 750 rep … yay …

Boss - 25%
Assault -25%
Tormentors -17% (including the quest you loot in the chest when you kill it)

Tbh that should be plenty.
The faffing about after it should be chopped.

Put the tormentors up to 25 and add 25% for the 2nd weekly world quest.
