Sharding on Roleplay Servers

Please if possible turn off sharding on Roleplay Servers.

Roleplay is already fragile enough, and now it gets completely ruined by the diablo event though the entire vacation.

Stormwind which is the main hub is completely useless now. I am speaking for alliance, I am sure Horde has the same problem.

Yes please do so the sharding is off roleplay servers, Yilel has a point and I think it should be considered what she’s talking about, stormwind is the main rp area and are very much used by all roleplayers of the alliance so for people like us we’re kinda affected a bit by the sharding and phasing, it’d be so amazing to see you listen to this and help with the problem we’re adressing.

I concur with Yilel, Blizzard really need to think with these kind of events on RP servers!, but they do not, events like this need to be moved away from the City, Stormwind being a main hub for most people at least. This event will last a month!, that’s a whole month of RP disturbance and it’s not the first time an event like this has caused issues.
Dornagal has the event outside!.., I believe Ogrimmar has it also outside so why is Stormwind different it makes zero sense to me at least please Blizzard listen to RP community’s!.

In another thread about the same topic, it was said that this should be shared with the developers. So, how do we contact the delvelopers?

Can’t the blizzard employees that read this just stand up and scream down to the cubicles where the developers are sitting and tell them?

Or is there some kind of way we can reach the developers without having to go to blizzcon and kiss someone’s shoe?

In this post on Twitter, developers said that sharding is always turned off on Roleplay servers, which clearly is not true. So the developers already know of this problem, perhaps an oversight?

As someone who does a lot of RP in Stormwind, I can’t help but second this notion.

It’s upsetting and frustrating :frowning:

100% agreed, this has happened so many times in the past and every time Blizzard tells us sharding is turned off for RP servers and yet we’re sharded.
Either actually turn off sharding properly on RP servers, or allow us to pick which shard we’re currently in.
It’s already kind of possible by being invited by people in different shards, something that is already being used for bigger events and will now have to be done due to this event.
But there’s no way of seeing which shard you’re in or swap it without the aid of another player.

Defo a problem that is on the rise. Sharding has definitively become the go-to solution for any event where we see massive congregations of players in one area and whilst it is fully understood that it is a measure that must be kept in place for prolonged periods, it is also known to Blizzard that the RP communities are super dependent on the sharding ending prematurely for us to keep the communities busy.

We do have work arounds, but there is no denying it impact a lot of RP’ers negatively when kept up too long.

If anything at least the mods saw the post, and then moved it to a forum where nobody from Blizzard will ever read it again. Thanks…

Feels like this happens every time there’s some kind of seasonal or world event and blizz’s go to solution is to do nothing.

:/

They could at least put the event somewhere else, and not in the main RP hubs.

Wasn’t it said once upon a time ago that RP servers were gonna be spared from the sharding stuff? And for a while that was the case, did they revert that or something?

Sorry, I made a complete hash of my formatting.

Unless you have a L10 character on a US account in which case you can post on the US forums … the only way is to make a suggestion ingame. Click on Game Menu or Esc ingame then on Support then submit feedback or bug report.

Sadly not as the CS staff on these forums are in Europe and the devs are in the US.

Better idea!

Give us an actual drop down menu on the map screen that let’s us pick a “world shard” to be on manually (auto-phasing from joining groups aside). SWTOR does that and it works well enough.

Then Blizzard could separate the world instances into 3 categories:

  • PvE Default
    • With various amounts of instances to pick from in another drop-down list
  • World PvP
  • With various amounts of instances to pick from in another drop-down list
  • Roleplay
    • 2 Instances
      • One with all NPCs
      • One with necessary NPCs

Why make a half-baked solution when the entire system could be improved?

I honestly loathe the automated sharding system. It’s trash being more of a nuisance than anything else; camping out for a Rare or doing an event just to end up randomly phasing to another shard really ticks me off…

Lots of other MMOs allow you to manually select the layer instance, showing the population of that instance adding more to avoid overcrowding… be great if WoW did that…

Hopefully something can be done about it, as it’s very much a central point in RP.

They did, yes, for…uhm…the Heartstone event? I don’t remember, but for one event they deactivated sharding on RP servers. A tleast they said they did, I think it was still happening/broken

But yes, in general, sharding on RP servers should be disabled. But I don’t know what happens to the server performance on servers like AD when everyone is on the same instance.

This at the very least

It´s seriously annoying, yeah. Lets hope it’s turned off automatically this time, at least. The fact that we always have to beg for it to be turned off is ridiculous.

So far what I heard on Discord RP servers, that Stormwind is no longer sharded now. No clue about other areas like Undermine, Pandaria, and Dalaran (Legion) though.

I 100% agree — sharding really undermines the RP atmosphere.
Also, maybe it’s just me, but does anyone else find it mildly annoying seeing non-RP realm players hopping into RP shards just to grab our rares and rescues… plundering our poor Time-Lost Proto-Drakes?

That’s maybe just you. I at least don’t care honestly. We can do the same in turn.
