So, are these shards really that necessary? I’ve only just recently came back into the game and I don’t have the best gear, I’m currently using a head from Normal SoD, socketed with a shard of course, but I’ve got my BiS M+ head which I can upgrade to be a lot better ilvl-wise. Is it worth to keep the one with the shard or just replace it? I get it that shards could be OP, but if they’re socketed in HC+ items from the raid, otherwise, should I just equip my BiS M+ head and other such items in the future?
They are close, i would save valor for other items if i was you.
Well, the thing is that my raid head is not even my BiS, Wowhead says that it’s the one from KT. However, it also says that the head from MOTS is my BiS from M+ and I’ve got that at 233 ilvl, which I could upgrade up to 242 at the moment. IDK if it’s worth it, maybe I should take your advice and save my valor for items that don’t have sockets of domination.
Are you planing to raid more these season?
Depends on what content you are doing. Nobody cares if all you aim to do is mythic +15 or maybe a few levels above that at most. The small benefit the shards provide don’t matter in keys at 15 or below. If you don’t time them then it’s because of bigger things than shards.

If you plan to keep raiding then nothing will ever beat the domination gear + shards. It’s a major power increase for your character (only works in the raid + the maw).
if you are just starting with this now, it might be a bit frustrating as a system because it takes a while to get enough stygian embers to upgrade these shards to a proper level. They are literally time gated per week. That is, unless tomorrow’s patch hasnt got some catching mechanism for them.
Ofc if you just get to enjoy raiding and dont mind how long it takes for these to pile up,thats fine.
Depends you need to ask yourself do I wanna raid at mythic level or high m+ keys 20 - 25 ish if not nope then it isn’t relevant can still be useful but not necceraly, then 1 advice get rid of crusaders might it’s bad now, take lights hammer instead.
If you do M+: Gem sockets dont matter. The bonus they grant is miniscule as the set bonus is not active in dungeons so a higher ilvl piece will most certainly be better (sim if in doubt or if the ilvl between the pieces is small)
In raids: Even a normal piece that enables you to get the 3set bonus active will most likely outscale a 252 piece that would cause you to drop the 3set. Especially if the gems are already leveled up.
If the gems are upgraded to rank 5 yes.they easily outgrade 1 piece of 252 gear.
The player is kyrian, where also the glimmer talent is used. Crusaders Might is still adding a couple of extra holy shocks. Lights hammer is for venthyr.

They already outgrade a 252 piece before that if they enable a 3set bonus.
