Greetings dear hopefully non-violent mob of Argent Dawn!
Recently, I was made to reminiscence on the boatload of characters I portrayed over the many years. Some I recall fondly, others with a twinge of sorrow at either a story that never reached a conclusion or a concept that did sound good on paper but sadly did not work out in practice.
As I was reflecting on a bundle of event-only characters, I had a good laugh at some of them and it made me think. What other wonderful or perhaps horribly bad characters did other people have a blast playing as? Or perhaps there was a concept you really felt like roleplaying as yet somewhere along the way they fell along the wayside?
I’ll share one to start off with:
During the whole pre-Warlords of Draenor patch when the Horde and Alliance gathered in the Swamp of Sorrows to compare their mogs and shout at one another; the veil between worlds thinned during the festive days of Hallow’s End! Our guild at the time was all wrapped up in the would-be serious business of server politics and I felt that we could all use a light-hearted moment.
Hence it was that word reached them of a merchant bearing mighty artifacts had been on route yet became trapped within the ever-cursed Deadwind Pass…
I had the great pleasure to portray this merchant: A slick goblin with a fake moustache that was enchanted to heighten his prices. Although I had prepped quite a few of his illustrious wares, I only recall three artifacts he sought to peddle:
-
The Groomhammer, a replica of Thrall’s Doomhammer outfitted with a mirror, powder box, comb and accessories.
-
The Sashbringer, a replica of the fabled Ashbringer that contained a series of ribbons to keep your pants up.
-
The Scythe of Bell-tune, a replica of the Scythe of Elune utilized for the tuning of bells.
The latter attracted the notorious riders of Deadwind Pass (pre-Legion, mind you) which each had their own little mechanic. Big armoured dude is slow but strong, spellcaster is backline but dangerous, ranger dude can leap from his horse to shoot, etc.
With the riders defeated and the near-worthless artifacts plundered, it was revealed that the goblin salesman was a ghost doomed to haunt the pass during Hallow’s End in order to attract hapless adventurers to their early graves, their gear to be added to Kharazan’s repertoire. Alas, now he could finally ascend to that giant pile of gold in the sky.
Dropped his moustache, too. Phat lewt.
In hindsight it was but a very short-lived character, yet somehow he remains to occupy a distant corner in the back of my mind. But enough about me! This is the part where I ask you all to share a tale of a character you were very fond of! So please do tell us of the circumstances that made you create such a character, why you think back on them (hopefully with a smile) and whatever happened in its conclusion.
Hope to read from you soon!
