I thought it would be nice if people shared old stories from their WoW gameplay experience. They can be anything; funny, embarrasing, foolish, epic…
I’ll start with sharing one of the moments from my WoW time that I’m not proud of at all and was pretty embarrassing at the time (and lead to some serious issues for me later on). Okay so…
It was vanilla. People were making an Azuregos raid to kill that world boss. I decided I would join.
We travelled to Azshara (just a short ride away from Orgrimmar, since I played horde back then) and after quite a long fight, we downed the big blue menace. A string of popups appeared to roll or pass on the various pieces of loot.
And then I noticed in the chat that several people were rolling for stuff they couldn’t even use. So I foolishly figured; Oh, you just roll. Okay, whatever.
Now then… I was ‘lucky’ enough to win no less than 3 of the items and I couldn’t use a single one of them. That of course enraged everyone in the raid and soon after a large part of the server community. I was blacklisted by many as a ninja looter.
Oh and I played a hunter. So yeah, they already had a bad name for rolling on all manner of weapons. That didn’t help matters either.
Thankfully my guild didn’t hold it against me and understood it was just a newbie mistake (people from the server community were actively demanding for the guild leader to kick me, for instance).
If I hadn’t won anything there wouldn’t really have been any issue, but me winning 3 items sealed my fate.
It took a long time for people to forget about that event and where I was welcome to join dungeons groups, world boss raids etc without getting the old ‘no you’re a ninja’ reply.
I don’t have anything dramatic but just some fun memories.
On vanilla we used to often play with 3 irl friends. One of them was holy paladin but started mage alt and was playing it very happily. For some strange reason while he was absolutely sharp and professional on his paladin, on his mage he was really absent-minded. He for example managed several times to disenchant gear he was wearing when trying to put enchant on it. He was really fond of having portal spells to help us travel around. Problem was, that in one out of three times he was making us portal he accidentally used teleport instead. He was honestly sorry and embarrashed every time. It happened so often that we got used to him just disappearing after starting to “make us a portal” and kept our HS cooldown free cause we usually needed it anyway. Even today if someone is making me portal i expect them to just disappear and am genuinely surpriced if portal appears.
Other nice memory i got from old times is when we used to do these silly dungeon runs with same group of friends. We put all our gear into bags, went into some low lvl dungeon and started to clear it up “naked”. Goal of the run was to gear up your character as good as you can during the run with basically anything that dropped. On the end we usually took screenshot of the weird outfits people had been scrapping together over the run. Good times
we were doing a early expansion raid and a beloved young player in our guild, a warlock, (about 13 I think, nice kid) used an eye of kilrog to have a look up close and pulled the boss and wiped us. It was after about 3 hours of raiding and we were exhausted. The raid leader, a nice guy, got pissy and we all were very tense about it and then I started laughing and the entire group (including some who didn’t speak English too well) nearly wet ourselves laughing for about 5 minutes. Even raid leader laughing his head off. We stopped, said this was our last go for the night and we killed it for the first time.
It was b far the best raid ive ever attended and the guild chat for months was full ofjoviality and love for our lil warlock … who was mortified about it til I started laughing. Weve been pals ever since and I was invited, along with a few others, to his 18th in demark.
A real nice experience and Ive loved wow ever since, for giving me that memory … one ill never forget.
My most fun times was when i started playing, in tbc, i would play dress hp.
Didn’t wanna change my pants on my draenei, as they looked nice.
I don’t remember much from back then.
But 3 days ago, i was looking to do a wq to kill a guy, saw a red thing on the spot, attacked it. But it was a horde player. I started to emote sorry to him, cause he also attacked me after that. Didn’t kill him. Cute tauren.
I’d queue in oqueue as a barely good enough geared rogue and beg for invites for flex SoO, once we are at the boss I change to my real gear which was at the maximum attainable ilvl, shred the dps meter and go back to my petty gear.
