Hello! Just wanted to ask a couple of questions about the shattered Hand assassins that live in the cleft of shadows, seeing as there’s not much info about them online.
How much do they link to the old orc clan of the same name? Is it just a name or were these orcs apart of that clan? If so do you think some of them still remove hands? Also any extra interesting info you can give me on them would be lovely, thank you.
During the formation of the Horde the Warchief Blackhand converted the smaller orcish clans into scouts, raiders and auxiliary forces.
These included the Shattered Hand Clan, which is where their role as scouts and assassins for the Horde took root (see Chronicle 2).
As part of Thrall’s Horde they seem to have abandoned their practice of self-dismemberment and -mutilation, as we see several orcs, including their leader Gordul, with both hands intact (see https://wow.gamepedia.com/Gordul).
We also see non-orcish members such as trolls and goblins being members of the Shattered Hand organization, which would imply it has indeed become more of an organization than a traditional orcish clan (see https://wow.gamepedia.com/Traitors!!!).
The same is true for other clans such as the Frostwolf Clan that boasts Tauren members as of World of Warcraft (see https://wow.gamepedia.com/Siegesmith_Stronghoof).
Far as I am aware they are pretty much the hordes answer to SI:7
and between you and me, I think they are doing a better job since no one seems to know about them.
also where SI:7 have a goblin in their ranks, The Shattered Hand have a dark iron dwarf (if recall correctly)
This is true, though instead of being reformed from the Clan itself, one can assume that for whatever reason (likely due to the SH Clan’s affinity to assassination), they simply took on their name.
Beside the name and the affinity towards assassination, they don’t seem to link at all, judging from the quests, the appearance of the NPCs and the Traveler novel.
They definitely don’t remove hands, UNLESS your Shattered Hand ROGUE also happens to be part of the Shattered Hand CLAN. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Clan orc would take great offense to encountering a Rogue that cheekily faked their clan tradition.
I’d check out the Vanilla Rogue quests if I were you. There’s some nice tidbits in there, for example a Dark Iron dwarf that knows the Shattered Hand salute, which means he’s part of the organisation (`https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?quests=4.-162´)
i think it’s a bit farfetched to assume he is actually part of the actual Orcish Clan and doesn’t just serve there as part of the Horde military. As far as I’ve seen every mob in Alterac Valley is tagged with that faction.
i have found one hint from the warcraft novel traveler and found this guy:
Sadly cant figure out of to link it cus new forums is poo
But an ogre by the name of Throgg was helped by a squad of shattered hand assassins from a battle with the alliance and saved his life. After the battle he was offered to join the clan after proving himself to be a tough fighter and it seems from here that he made a pact to the clan by severing his hand and replacing it with a macefist, and it appears that several members of the clan do still use bladefists and other types of weapon they attach to their stumps.
I dont know if its a manditory pact every member have to do to join the clan or if its voluteering for old traditions sake.
Those were clan warriors, not the assassins/members of the Rogue organisation that OP wants to know about. And yes, if you’re part of the clan it seems you’ll have to get rid of that hand.
