Shattered Legacies Question

Where does the Sylvanas Ranger General soul fragment come from? In the case of Uther, when he died his soul went to the Shadowlands but a part was trapped in the Frostmourne. Considering the same happened to Sylvanas, Arthas used the traped fragment from Frostmourne to make the Banshee Sylvanas, who later decided to dwell inside her old body. However, shouldn’t the Sylvanas soul be in the Shadowlands then? Or was the Ranger General condemned to the Maw for some reason? Also, in the case of Uther 9.1 we return the stolen shard to his soul but with Sylvanas it should be the soul being returned to the Fragment. Why would the ranger general be surprised if she was in the maw since W3? What am I missing?

The Jailer had the fragment of her soul. Considering Zovaal was behind the Lich King, it is safe to assume, he had easy access to the fragment. The Banshee was created from the rest.

Zovaal got that fragment from Ardenweald through Mueh’zala, as has been explored in the Vereesa portion of Folk and Fairy tales of Azeroth.

Banshee Sylvanas was the one that went to shadowlands. From Edge of night:

Sylvanas Windrunner drifts in a sea of comfort, physical sensations replaced by the purity of emotion. She can grasp bliss, see joy, hear peace. This is the afterlife, her destiny. The eternal sea in which she found herself after she fell defending Silvermoon. She belongs here. With each recollection, her memory of this place palls. The sound grows distant; the warmth, cooler. The vision takes on the pallor of a half-remembered dream. But with horrific clarity, the memory always ends the same: Sylvanas’s spirit is wrenched away. The pain is so intense it leaves her soul forever torn. The grinning face of Arthas Menethil, with his lopsided smile and dead eyes, leers at her as he pulls her back into the world. Violates her. His laughter—that hollow laugh—the memory of it makes her skin crawl!

The shards from Frostmourne was claimed by the Jailor after Frostmourne was shattered. If you play the quest to retrieve Uthers shard there are more shards from Frostmourne in the room where we find Uthers shard.

To be fair the good part of her soul should have originally gone to Bastion. As Ranger-General Sylvanas had a lot of years of service in protection of Silvermoon and the High Elven people in general, defending it against multiple enemy invasions, and eventually died in service of Quel’thalas too. Just like Uther for Lordaeron.

Not sure why Ardenweald was picked by the Arbiter instead…just because she was an Elf and a Ranger? High Elves were not Night Elves though, she didn’t use a lot of nature magic for her abilities and as Ranger-General she had sworn to protect Silvermoon and all its people, not just the forests of Quel’thalas. I know the Rangers/Hunters definitely have common themes with nature but I think Bastion should still have been the first choice for her afterlife, originally.

Her being a ranger is about as good of an explanation as any. Both Bastion and Maldraxus could have worked for her, in their own ways, as there is a fair amount of overlap.

I kind of suspet that they are using the soul shard to explain why Sylvanas went to the Maw instead of MAldraxus, Revendreth or something after her suicide. Circumventing the Arbiter, but leaving her none the wiser.
