Lots of newer games started to use Vulkan as an option instead of DirectX. We can all see that lots of players have issues with DirectX and it all depends on PC specifications / Driver versions.
Path of exile for example is a game that runs Vulkan API and the framerate and latency difference is drastic when switching from DirectX. I doubt that if a company like GGG that have significantly less amount of employees and devs can do it, so why can Blizzard cannot? Vulkan also shows pretty much better performance statistics than DirectX too. They shall take this proposition into consideration.
Are you seriously thinking that suggestion made “in-game” are reviewed? They don’t even answer on basic technical problem tickets. That’s why I am proposing this in the forums so the community can consider it like an option we can moan about.
Vulkan could be a first step for native Linux support but I doubt it would help vs DX12. DLSS or AMD and Intel counterparts could maybe help at high resolutions and newer zones but you need a modern hardware for that.
It depends on the implementation. WoW has a good DX12 mode already. Vulkan would likely not help, especially with limitations/bugs they get from patch to patch.
This is relative, according to the many reports from players that are having issues with DX12. Atleast they should try to implement it as a “beta” test mode option like the other game devs do. They test anti-aliasing settings every expansion why shouldn’t they try something on the PTR especially with all those performance issues we have right now.
It’s an interesting idea, as OpenGL/Vulkan would make the game easier to port cross-platform.
I’m not saying that is something I want, but I know there is a current effort to add controller compatibility and launch the game on a console in the future at some point…
I have also heard in the past that Vulkan is brilliant at dealing with thousands of objects/models and stuff on screen at any given time, which sounds like something WoW might be able to make use of…
Well it seems like when players switch to DX11 the issues are fixed, so it can be, but it may be not. World of Warcraft have a lot of engine issues to begin with, if I am not lying to myself WoW uses old War3 engine that is constantly updated with newer models or etc. When you update newer and heavier models to old engine you will end up with unstable graphics… at least to my knowledge things works like that. Basically what I am proposing to the devs is to start testing new things like Vulkan for example. PoE had a lot of engine problems and a lot of fps spikes/stutterings, after they implemented Vulkan, every player seems to report a better game behavior.
