Honestly though - and I say this as someone leaning a bit politically to the right myself!

Even if genetics did determine outcome, should they be allowed to?

I mean, I’m a fairly weedy guy - according to genetics and the laws of nature, I should have been devoured by wolves or skewered by an enemy tribe many moons ago; so I’m glad society has advanced to a point I dont need to worry about these two things anymore!

Honestly, I think opening a conversation about genetics usually puts you on shaky ground; and works AGAINST the individuality I think we should be striving for?

Like - okay, your point about women,

Sure, women are on average physically smaller than men - on average.

BUT; does this mean women should be barred from certain professions? I’d say no. Hell, genetically speaking, 90% of even very small women could still kick me to the curb!

Remember, playing the genetics divide works BOTH WAYS - the Geniunely weird ACTUAL sjws to the extent they exist for instance will say like, “Oh, women and POC are inherently kinder and nicer than evil men and white people!”

I mean; I should hope my mentions of Tamerlane, Shaka Zulu, Genghis Kahn - let’s throw Indira Gandhi in here too for examples of a woman - put THAT idea soundly to bed.

Basically, genetics MIGHT have an impact, but in 2020, they really SHOULDN’T, and it’s a dark path to walk.

Absolutely no. That would be oppression, indeed.

I think we should never mention or think about genetics when we select people. But that’s not the point, the issue is that they will inevitably have an impact in a way that isn’t seen by any of the parties.

Not just when it comes to ethnicity, but even in differences between individuals of the same group.

Slavery of white people happened until the 1900s, right? I mean correct me if I am wrong, but slavery of Europeans was outlawed at one point by most nations, but slavery of whites was not.

I mean, it was not as widespread as black slavery, but your comment seemed to me as only black people were owned as property for centuries and that asians, whites and what not were never in the same boat.

Technically, you aren’t wrong!

The Ottoman Empire, and various other Islamic Caliphates, did indeed capture many hundreds of thousands of ‘white’ (however u define the term!) people from Europe (sometimes via Barbary pirates), and use them as slaves! Mostly for domestic, military (heck, the Ottoman Army for many centuries was basically BUILT on white slaves taken from Ottoman colonies in the Balkans as children, before being ‘re-educated’ to serve the Sultan!) and, perhaps worse, sexual reasons.

And yes, that obviously had a horrible effect on the European communities (usually costal) those white people were stolen from.

They also used Black Africans for similar reasons; heck, I think Abbasid Caliphate was one of the first regimes in history to use Black Africans as plantation labourers, leading to the Zanj Rebellion of the 750’s.

If I remember, some Ottoman Sultan DID try to ban the import of European slaves in the 1880s (I think?), but the law went basically ignored by a lot of Turkish aristocrats for obvious reasons.

SO YOU’RE NOT WRONG! And obviously, being taken as a slave is never nice, even if you are white! And yes, white people were NOT the only slavers in history!

BUT: I think the argument some of the left will make against you here (discounting, again the SJW weirdos who say “UMM SWEEITE?? SLAVERY IS DIFFERENT AND OKAY WHEN THE OTTOMANS DO IT!”!) is that -

Generally speaking, the descendants of the white slaves don’t really live in Turkey, or the Middle East anymore, and the costal communities ravaged by the Ottoman Empire & their lackeys have (generally speaking, though not always!) recovered - whereas in the USA, the descendants of black slaves are still there, and suffering the long-term effects as a result =)

I think that’s the kicker, maybe?

Yeah, Kaitylinn summed it up. Slavery as a whole, everyone can agree, is very very bad. The difference between Ottoman slavery and European slavery is the ancestral consequences throughout the Carribean, the United States, and most of the known world.

That, and discussing the indentured servitude contracts of people such as the Irish is used almost exclusively as a dogwhistle by racists to diminish the impact of chattle slavery.

They are not comparable and it is not helpful to put those times in such a context.

I mean I get where the urge to do that comes from - it can be grating when people claim, as they often do on Twitter, that “Their demographic” is the ONLY one in history ever to have known suffering and misery, a feeling you could not POSSIBLY understand(!); so I suppose that’s a knee-jerk response to be anticipated.
