Some tactical team based shooters hide kill counts, enemy tickets etc, to encourage team play, and you only see those stats when the match is over.
I think damage meters should be banned and after every boss or after the run is complete you will get a report on damage done, healing done, interrupts etc. I think banning damage meters would encourage more players to play the mechanics of a fight instead of ignoring mechanics just to be on top of the damage meter.
why though? This is a non-issue in the mythic raiding scene where good players know how to read the dps meters.
For example: on ilgynoth mythic I literally don’t touch the organs to create space for other people. Aka my dmg is ZERO during those phases of the fight, but we still 1 shot it every week ever since we got the first kill
If damage meters are problematic to you you are looking at them the wrong way. Use them to find the flaws in the way your play and as a quick surface level indicator of if you are doing things right or not.
Stop seeing everything as a competition against others and start seeing it as a competition against yourself.
No, because damage meters these days aren’t just that anymore… for example Details is logging a lot more information than just damage or healing… it can show people’s talents, buffs, pre-pots, runes, breaks down people’s damage taken, deaths, interrupts etc. etc. so many useful little things, so no I don’t think it should be banned it’s a good tool for raiding.
I can have HUUUGE heals per second in a raid, but if I’m not healing the right people at the right time (ie spamming it all on dps and letting tanks die for instance) the level of heals I’m doing is irrelevant.
However if my hps count is a little bit lower but the heals are going to the right people, then I’m doing my job
But every now and again some Demon Hunter will try to make it an issue
Damage meters allow you to analyze problems and to optimize your strategy and gameplay in a quick and easy way without having to resort to logs which can be intimidating or cumbersome to use for some people if you aren’t used to them.
Even if you ignore all that disabling dmg meters wouldn’t fix your problem. People are not completely stupid and will quickly realize that ignoring mechanics equals more dps, even if you only shows them their dps afterwards.
So if people decide to actively ignore the mechanics to deal more dmg banning dmg meters won’t help.
Only a tiny amount of people who are failing because they are distracted by staring at the dmg meter will be helped. But those people probably have a problem with focusing on essential things happening in a fight anyway or just don’t know what to do.
It would be great if you could go to a target dummy and it tells you the dps and how long you were in combat - without an addon.
Have seen this in another game… only issue is there to get into raids they make you come to their dummy and if you are in a group with them they can check your dps.
I would love to see a breakdown at the end of a dungeon like in Neverwinter.
Yeah I know different games, but Blizzard have no problem borrowing ideas from other games
the ones that hide have garbage systems. Like overwatch which is ironically, a blizzard game. Their cute idea, is to reduce toxicity by hiding everything. Which results in more toxicity.
no you need damage meters so you can make more informed descions on gear and also if you ban damage meters how will you know if new people in your raid group are doing enough damage.
I hate to be called a trash healer for not manaburning on the bloody dps + is the meter gonna say im better than a mythic raider in healing? i dont even sim or check guides!
Where does this misconception come from that you can just ignore boss mechanics and still be top dps? So many boss fights where if you don’t do the fight properly you’ll die. And not be top dps. I really don’t get the dislike for such addons, all they’re doing is conveying usefull information back to the people who choose to use them. You don’t have to use them, but then you’ll have to accept that some people won’t want to play with you.
i don’t see a problem with damage meters, but i did remove the addon in WOD myself as i noticed i was paying more attention to the meters then the actual fight.
If you ban damage meters your basically banning addons and that would result in a toxic community like FF14 have where the devs would be actively policing its player base over player-hosted content and trying to give power to casuals, people cry about damage meters simply cause its gate keeping players from content their incompetent of doing and expect to be boosted/carried. If you’re a 470 mage for example and cant overall 30k dps with any spec then you should at best be doing LFR or normal difficulty content–sorry not sorry, thats just how it is.
