Should I ever use Water Elemental?

Hi all,

Just some advice here, should I ever use my Water Elemental or always go for Lonely Winter? I never see Frost Mages running with a pet so I wanted to ask the forums for some advice. Is it a dps loss?

Yep indeed. It is a DPS loss.

It is unfortunate because elemental is definitely much more fun, it also adds some things to your rotation as well with the second frost nova. This brings more to your group in keys, but unfortunately, frost mage is only about Ice Lances. The talents, the builds, the tier set everything is about Ice Lances. They made frost mage really good, but so boring compared to BFA build for example.

So no, never elemental sadly.

That is a shame! I actually prefer playing without a pet personally, however I do like the option of having one without having to take a chunky DPS loss.

Agreed. Obviously, with pets, you have to be more careful. Though pet for frost mage wasn’t really any “problem” for you. And like said the 2. frost nova from it was hella fun and great for keys on some weeks.

And also you could pull stuff from walls and etc as you can with hunter and rest of the classes with pets. Most of them at least. But yeah, I mean in the end sure you can play frost elemental, but expect a huge DPS loss for it. If that’s oke for you, just play what you have the most fun with

there is a relatively popular giga aoe build for high m+ (+20 keys at the very least) on fortified weeks that uses bone chilling alongside other things like the disciplinary command legendary and freezing rain

Tried out the build in a dos 16 last night. You can make it work depending on the dungeon/tank and its more fun to play than a splitting ice build.

Did some sims out of curiousity. Its a 5-6% dps loss on ST. It breaks even at 5 targets and pulls ahead at 6. It would also allow to to pet freeze for some extra orb and comet storm shatters.
