I joined a BG today. 4 fury warriors, 2 dks, 2 prevokers. Arguably the situation in arena will be the same come the season, unless there are significant balance adjustments.
Nowadays, it is very easy to level an alt and gear it up for PvP. We are talking 1-2 days. This makes it very easy and comfortable to react to meta changes.
I don’t have a very strong opinion myself, but I am curious what people think. What if gear acquisition from pvp was significantly slowed down? We are talking 1 full day of farming to get a medium honor or conquest piece.
Also, inb4 Blizzard should just balance the game quicker (which I do agree with).
I’ve been saying it all the time, scroll back to bfa, make bis gear obtainable cross-content, just don’t make it rng again. Good PvP trinket that gives you a 1 % edge? Sure, go M raid for it, then. Need off-stat full stack to be the ultimate stacklord for maximum damage? Fine, go farm M+ coins to buy a piece of equipment which you upgrade for the m+ currency. Same for PvE niche from PvP. Just combine the content, do not make it mandatory - but make it desirable. It’s gonna bloat the ladder properly, and all achievements will suddenly be much more reasonable, and there will be much less struggle with meta comps, because they will move much higher in the ladder. Oh, and bet your ahh arenas would be better taken care of in many aspects including balance - because the PvErs would scream their lungs off if something would be even remotely unfair, and they would actually listen.
It had always been like this, last xpac was litteraly 10 mm or boomy in epic bg.
I guess going back in time when you have to work hard for your gear and doing campaign and stuff would for sure decrease fotm reroll but it would be annoying for people like me with a work that don’t play 10h per day to get my alt geared.
1% edge? drest / bike / obsidian basically killed people from 30% hp and could take you out from 50% hp if two were popped at the same time… there were literal strats around people just double trinketing players.
If you make all gear cross-content, you either force Blizzard to favour one mode (raids) or slow down / reduce the ilvl of all the other modes.
Funny you mention BFA when that’s an example where most PvP gear was literally useless… everyone wore m+/raid gear. The only useful gear were some azerite pieces IIRC.
Gearing is fine the way it is. PvE gear should always be substantially inferior to PvP gear. Conquest gear should be easier to obtain from casual content such as BG´s n what not for those who are behind.
Fotm rerolling is always going to be a thing no matter how bad you make gearing. The fotm rerolleres tends to be the ones who would stick through the grind no matter what so making gearing awful would just drive off normal people.
In a perfect world fotm rerolling wouldnt exist for the simple fact that classes are too close in power for it to yield any real reward but blizz is never going to give PvP that amont of attention.
Its also worth factoring in how bad balancing can be at times. In first patch of BFA i exclusively played one character, my DK. Unholy was so bad in PvP at the time that the worlds best unholy DK´s were playing blood dk in arena. This state lasted for what? 7-8 months or so? i honestly cant remember. I stuck with it for a while n then i simply unsubbed n dident play again till late shadowlands. Theres a considerable amont of examples like this, this is simply the one i remember the most vividly myself since i wanted to play but i wanted to play my class n the game simply dident allow that at the time.
Alot of people do indeed fotm reroll to be op, but if blizz dident constantly leave specs in an unplayable state for 6-12 months in a row i think people would be less inclined to reroll in the first place.
Drest + bike + nzoth tank trinket was the best that happened to PvP. Or, well, it would have, if it were balanced better. obviously 40 % hp crits off-gcd made no sense, but for example SL s3 grenade trinkets after nerf were really good with that, ebcause it gave the game extra flavour, while requiring skill, because you needed to make a precise, timed setups to get them off, and they stopped critting because they realised it’s nonsense, and at the same time you knew you could kill without them - they were not mandatory, but were desirable for certain playstyles.
where most PvP gear was literally useless
It was not. Lots of PvP pieces were bis in PvE because of offstats/azerite stacks, and the same was in PvP, and let’s be honest - what else mattered in bfa except for azerite stacking and offstat stacking when corruptions were implemented? Just the trinkets. You were playing PvP 1 min stat stick trinket in m+ because of setups, and you were playing drest/bike/nzoth in PvP because of setups. The bis raid azerites for fullstack 3x3 came from PvP for some specs, and same was with PvP azerites coming from e.g. m+.
MM, while utterly dog in that specific season, had it really fun, if we ignore the RNG:
3rd Surging Shots + the streamline azerite piece came from m+, and it was desirable to have all of those for maximum rapid fire damage.
3rd In The Rhythm + Unerring Vision azerite piece came from PvP, and it was desirable to have all of those for maximum haste setup burst.
PvP - drestagath raid/bike m+/nzoth tank raid
PvE - badge for m+ and some raid specs, e.g. if you as mage didn’t have azshara’s font.
PvP - no matter which offstat you were stacking corruptions into, most of the pieces came from m+.
etc etc., if it wasn’t RNG and if stuff was balanced better, it would have served as a great community unifier. Just stop wasting people’s times on RNG and grinds and make meaningful changes for peopel to enjoy the entirety of the game instead of segregating them and pushing one against other, it makes no sense, Blizzard.
Very stupid post…
What do you even mean dude?
Blizzard literally does the balancing.
Players just go after it.
If Blizzard made everything equal THEN the problem would be fixed.
Both groups are equally bad for the game, but for different reasons.
Blizzard need to shake the meta every two weeks.
They for fel sake can write an automated algorithm that can buff or nerf classes/specs and their PvP balance auras accordingly by their representation in PvP and their Kill/loss ratio - Basically if in the last two weeks the amount of MM hunters has grown significantly/they became the majority of the team/their kill ratio has grown significantly - system would nerf them by 20-30% until blizz would implement more deliciated balance changes by the hands. And when their numbers would go down and return to the more normal state system/blizz can raise the damage if it fell too low.
With such automated system Metafluids or Fotm players would not be able to steamroll through out the season.
Maybe we have that coming? More frequent balance tuning… then we have it all. Easy leveling. Easy gearing. AND class balance. Just the pure enjoyment of playing. Finally!
