Right now raid bosses drop an average of around 100-200g, which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. This means that raiders either need to spend hours outside of raiding either farming materials to craft consumables, or farm gold to buy those consumables on the AH.
Can Blizzard not just increase the gold rewards for killing raid bosses, that scales with the difficulty? Say 500g for a normal raid boss, 1000g for a heroic raid boss and 1500g for a mythic raid boss.
I understand that this would have a big effect on the economy but to be honest the economy is already in a complete mess so nothing new there. The side effect of this would be that guilds would be less reliant on selling boosts to gain gold for progression. I expect it would still happen (players are greedy and there is a market for it) but it would certainly decrease.
It got decreased because people could farm legacy raids for a pretty good amount of gold, and Blizzard clearly didn’t like that. I’d like it if the act of raiding paid for itself, but I don’t think it’s how Blizzard wants the game to work.
I know, and even so I don’t think Blizzard likes it. They could’ve nerfed the gold from legacy raids only, but current ones got hit too. I’d bet their theory is it makes players engage more with out-of-raid activities to make gold, rather than spend all their time in raids, which is a good idea but being executed in the wrong place imo. Most gold making methods from crafting (RIP) and gathering were far more lucrative than farming the raids.
I don’t really know about the gold situation. I basicly bathe in gold at this point, with three raid days a week and a overall burn out. Farming gold or mats ain’t that bad. One thing which you can do to assist eachother is guild based consumable gathering.
I get a few donations of greens, mats etc. each week. So i make cauldrons, which saves my guild quite a bit of gold in the long run. We all sort of help out with feast materials and it’s overall just very few expenses paid each raid. Potions are probably the main concerns, but with everyone helping one another we get by fairly cheaply.
I know this might be an issue for the PuG community. But concidering you can earn a bit over 4-5k gold an hour killing wolves just vendoring their grey vendor junk(even more selling loins and dealing with green drops properly) I have a hard time seeing the issues. Another way whould be to kill nagas in Stormsong and sell Abyssal shards while looting a decent amount of gold.
If i really want to I can earn a bit over 100k+ a day just playing my herb+mine paladin and go call to arms normal/hc - tank/healer(for the bribe bags currently 900~g + 250g / rune on my server) while vendoring all junk and selling every material i find on the AH. I whould never do it thou, but since there is very little effort required in earning gold this expansion, especially as classes able to AoE grind I don’t see a need to increase drops on raid bosses. But i whould not mind the change, more gold the merrier i guess.
