Should there be changes to mount collecting?

I’m really curious what u guys think about this. I’ve heard of people who have 400+ attemtps at invincible, that is, if u do icecrown in around 25 mins, a total of 166 hours, or 20 days of playing 8 hours nonstop, just to get that mount and I think that’s insane.

So, I wanted to ask, how would you feel about mounts being sellable? Or maybe a complete revamp of the mount collecting system?

I mean, people argue that if they become sellable they will lose their rarity, but do u really think that anyone would afford buying them all without consistent time spent in the game? I just feel like, if you could farm the gold, doing activities or grinds or whatever you could see your overall progress for a mount, or, you could farm others and sell them for the one you really want?

Or maybe that doesn’t have to be the case. Sometimes I like to waste my time on mobile games, especially the ones in which u have a team of monsters that u summon, etc, and I think it’s really frustrating that i can’t get natural high star monsters, but then I came across a game where , in order to get a, let’s say 5 star monster, you could farm levels for shards, that have a reasonably high dropchance and when u get a certain number of shards u could unlock that monster? Do you think that sort of system would work well in wow? Make invincible need, lets say 150 shards to get? ~mathematically speaking , with 1% dropchance, after 200 attempts u have 90% probability of already acquiring the drop at least one time~ then, you would eliminate both, the most unlucky and the very lucky ones, while, at the same time, you would still spend time farming the mount, but see tangible results for your hard work? I really liked that system in the game I’m playing and I really wonder why not more games do stuff like this? Maybe make the shards tradable through a new currency - like, let’s say you can “disenchant” the shards and buy other shards with that new currency, from the AH, and thus making mounts both tradable and without killing the gold market.

I’m really curious how you would feel about this, or if you think the mount system is alright or not, or maybe if you have other suggestions?

I think the BMAH works the way it’s intended for mounts, most mounts have a very fair chance of dropping, most mounts from raids are at a 1-3% droprate

The only mounts that stand out are the MoP world boss mounts with like 1/2000 or 1/3000 drop rates.

But otherwise the BMAH serves its purpose as this last resort for people that just don’t have luck on their side. Invincible is up pretty often, no need for a currency.

I think that ship has sailed.

The current design has been around so long that any attempt to uproot it would disrupt a form of gameplay that many players find appealing.

I mean, there are lots of players who are collectors and who’s motivation in the game consists of farming mounts and expanding their collection. You can’t really pull the rug from under these people, even if the design sometimes feels terribly frustrating. That frustration of a mount never dropping is also the dopamine release when it finally does drop.

Modern game design would look at many aspects of WoW and vomit, because it’s so archaic, unfriendly, and downright unhealthy. But in many areas WoW has to hold true to its existing design, because that is why some players keep playing the game. So it becomes sacred.

I can’t see why people want invincible myself.

Edit: also masking swearwords is not allowed.

well yes, i understand that there are people who worked hard for mounts and we should be considerate of changing this, but assuming you would need 150 shards to get a mount, in 150 attempts you would have probably gotten it already in the old way, or maybe you’re unlucky with one mount and get it after 300 but you’re really lucky with another and get it after 3, so the odds just go more even and the work for it is just as hard, you still need to grind a lot, but it’s just about seeing some progress bar, so i don’t really know if those players would be upset? or if this could get more people into mount farming

See? you can do it without swearing.

The basic joy of mount collecting IS the farming part. It’s what gives meaning to finally getting the mount. Most of them you are not going to use anyways.

Farming mounts is also a chilling, relaxing part of the game, many including me like it. I think the mount collecting system is fine as it is. Definitely wouldn’t like rare mounts to be sold.

Ive been suggesting this for years. The first time a mount drops for your account, leave it a Bop as it is now. The second and consequent times, make it Boe. I cant see how this would harm the system in any way. The rarity of the drop would still be the same.
