Since the day it was first a thing on the Map it has never worked hiding it. I do not play with Pet Battles, and thus I want to hide them on my Map, but has never worked in any expansion, and not now in TWW. They all still show up on my Map.
In what sense?
The green paws on the minimap showing where they are? Or the WQs on the big map, or the location of the pet battles on the big map?

That’s a world quest.

That is indeed a world quest as badger pointed out. Blizzard settings are just WQs on or off. Not sure if there are addons that could hide it for you.
Oh, I was so lazerfocused on where it said “Show: Pet Battles” that I didn’t look at “Show: Type: World Quest: Pet Battles” 
Apparently you can with Elvui so it must be possible with a smaller addon too if you don’t use that one.

and it also has a Filter allowing you to undisplay any specific type of World Quest.

Don’t forget that Pet Battle World Quests do give Reputation, even if little.
