Sidereal Essences Drop rate

So, the new Sidereal Essences in my opinion one of the best additions to the game so far. It a very nice way of implementing bad luck protection, however i few some ideas about the drop rate of the essences.

For context, i play on one of the smaller realms, as a result the ammount of groups within my guild and within the server as a whole clearing 9/9 Hard Modesa consistently is fairly low, the accesibility of these items especially on alts (even if you’re a skilled player) is decently difficult.

The sidereal Essences really solve this issue of the accesibility, but not as much as i had hoped. I personally play 5 and soon 6 characters which i all enjoy, and sometimes i play one more than another and then other time i play the other more.

In order for me to be able to raid my character need gear, people require gear logically so, Gearscore requirements are a very good example of this. I can see a potential issue comming up for those of us with more than 1 or 2 characters within the greater community that will not allow us to play the character we love because of this new system.

Even though this system makes hard modes items more accesible, this also means that people will be expecting you to get these items for your characters, i made a little overview and excluding the OS on my tank and healer character i will be needing over 600 Sidereal essences (1000 including the OS which you sometimes need to flex in raids etc).

Do the math 600 essences is 600 dungeons meaning 6 dungeons on avg every day for 100 day. Now of course the argument of: “you dont HAVE to get all the bis pieces” is very easy to counter my idea, but i have a feeling these items will become a requirement by raid leaders in pugs even on my smaller server purely because its available on a vendor and RNG isnt in your way, I think it falls under the same mentality of: “you could have gotten X item from a dungeon, so why would i pass because it would be a bigger upgrade for you”

My idea would be simple, reward people for killinc HC++ bosses and reward them 1 sidereal essence just like Badges. The way i see HC++ and the sidereal essences is a way of keeping up with the content so you can raid current content without having to clear previous content. Those who only need 1or 2 items will be farming their dungeons in 3/4 days anyway and never look back, but those of us who have a few Naxx and Ulduar pieces will be spending Weeks if not months to have enough gear so meet the ever increasing gear score requirement.

My idea would be moving those from HC++ to simply HM Ulduar10 bosses. The nature of HC++ already makes the thing a terrible catch up mechanic especially once the community bar it behind mid Phase 2 GS levels like we did with HC+.

In typical Blizzard fashion they take a decent Idea and make it worse than it should.

There are very few ulduar 10m hardmode items that are bis/close to bis in the next phase (such as the algalon trinket for holypaladins), on top of that toc is expected to be an easy raid, atleast on 10hc/25 normal (which both reward you with better loot compared to ulduar 10m hardmode items).

And why do you think that? Pugs will require a certain amount of gearscore, and just like I said Ony25, toc 10 hc and toc 25 normal will be super easy ways to get an even higher gearscore.

I would aggree P3 raids are looking very easy, but the problem i can see occuring is one currently present in Ulduar.

In week 1 ulduar we had tactics to kill bosses and we did it with full naxx gear,.
Nowadays when i want to bring a fresh character to Ulduar 25 normal modes, especially the playerbase that hasnt killed Hard modes in ulduar 25 are requiring Ulduar gear to join Ulduar. People favor not doing mechanics properly and letting gear carry them.

Hence making the path into Ulduar 25 requiring 10m Ulduar first, which is Bull%$# cause we did this $%# with Naxx gear at first.

Hence i think pugs in P3 will require ulduar 10 HM gear when its really not needed.

The game is more or less catered to casuals, which is fine.

If you wanna play 6 chars, consistently, you’re gonna have to deal with the conseeuenses of your choices.

People will always require ridiculously high GS for easy content, they wanna get carried through the raid/dungeon. That wont change, no matter how hard you try.

The easiest fix is either find a guild who shares your PoV, or migrate to a higher pop server (yes, i know its gonna be expensive)


Blizzard implemented hc+ to make dungeons more relevant as the patches progresses. Seeing how there are fewer and fewer hc+ groups out there, this sidereal thingy is an attempt to make all dungeons relevant again, not just the daily.

I highly doubt that they will remove the sidereal from the dungeons, that would effectively kill hc++ (besides daily).

While i agree with you that every boss should drop an essence.
I think you missed that with the addition of Emblems of Triumph vendor and Crusader Orbs, Blizzard changing the default Emblems to Emblem to Conquest; It will be much easier to fill every spot with a 232/245 armor/jewelry/trinket/weapons from the vendors and in some spots with crafted pieces.
It’s very clear with the pricing of HM items from the vendor that Blizzard just wants the average player to only aim for 2/3 pieces at max.

Personally I think the biggest problem is gonna be actually finding people who don’t require 5k+gearscore to do dungeons with.

Most majority of players will be 5GS+ raiders, who are going to look for 1-3 10ppl Ulduar HM items doing 9 H++ dungeons per day. Naturally they would seek same geared people to make each of this dailie dungeon runs shorter.

The GS requirement will drop only in about 2 months after phase 3 release, when every main would need only ToGC 25 HM loot.

Also ICC 5ppl normal and heroic instances will do a better job of catch up for Fresh lvl 80 characters, than H++ or H+++ would.

That is exactly what I plan to do. Full world tours with other 5k+ players until I get the remaining 3 items I need from U10, then daily with other 5k players till I have all I need from crusader emblems, then never touch hc++ again. Same as I did with hc+ and 4.2k gs. Nobody with gs <5k will ever be in hc++ with me.
If I can’t do it comfortably in RDF, I will make full use of my “make your own party” option :wink:
