Your character can hear of this incoming gathering via letters sent out to nexuses of sorcery such as the Nighthold, Silvermoon and the Mage Quarter of Stormwind, or contacts with the Kirin Tor.
Story Teaser
The Primalists made no secret of their hatred of everything touched by the Titans. And although most of them are scattered across many fronts, a growing force has turned its zealous glare toward what they consider the most unnatural of aberrations: magic.
Rumours of attacks against more and more travelling mages are running wild, and in the Violet Citadel, the concern of an existential threat has started to rear its ugly head: a shadowy character, who might once have been a child of Dalaran, has gathered his Primalists and formed an alliance with surviving mage hunters. A large-scale attack is coming, and it will spare no nexus of magical power on the face of the planet.
The Kirin Tor tasked two of its Archmagi to eradicate the threat before it can grow out of control: under the banner of the magocracy, Acheleus Moonblaze and Kelly Jendrock are calling for every capable arcanist, regardless of creed and allegiance, to gather soon in Dalaran - to fight for their rights and their lives in this new war on magic.
OOC details
Hello Argent Dawn! The [KTI] (see our AA) will be running its second public campaign, this time with bigger caps and more open sign-ups.
The campaign is magic-centric, tailored by and for mage players, and will include all you can expect from that premise: combat, yes, but with mechanics and hostiles made with magic in mind, research, academia, relic-hunting and overall magical fluff. Do you like arcane and water elementals? Pointy hats? Smug scholars and stylish battlemages? Obscure magical lingo? Whimsical lore? Strategy and cunning over barrelling into enemy lines? Turning people into sheep or chairs? Betrayals and plot twists? Purple? This is the RP for you.
This campaign is therefore open to mages only (no warlocks, Fel or Void users etc), regardless of race or faction. Characters like spellbreakers, spellblades, spellbows etc are accepted as long as they are arcane practitioners.
The central hub will be Legion Dalaran, with a couple of trips to Camp Antonidas in the Azure Span and other locations across Azeroth (thank you portals).
There will be central DMed plot events every 2-3 days, with more social or spontaneous events & assignments in-between.
FAQ
Can I DM/join the IC leadership?
We already have a core DMing team for big plot events, but we are looking for people willing to host smaller events, general activities and fluff (preferably plot related, such as exploration/scouting, social, research etc, but nothing is theoretically off-limits as long as the Kirin Tor would realistically sign up on it). Contact ‘Acheleus’ or ‘Jendrock’ on discord!
As for IC leadership, the two big bosses are the main campaign hosts’ characters (Acheleus Moonblaze & Kelly Jendrock), but if your character is a GM/officer or an official from a faction, they can be invited to act as representatives and secondary leaders. It would be especially welcome if you are willing to DM as mentioned above!
Any more race/class/faction restrictions?
The OOC class of the character doesn’t matter, as long as they are mages ICly; the only race we could restrict are dracthyrs, since they aren’t mages like other races in the lore, and having versatile tanks/healers wielding different sorts of magic would defeat the purpose of the campaign. However, IC thalassians/humans characters using the visage form OOC are of course accepted.
Any RP/PvP?
No RP-PvP: this is a strictly RP-PvE campaign, and the only in-game characters you will be put up against are campaign NPCs played by our DMing team. The Kirin Tor being neutral, any escalating faction and interpersonal conflicts will result in the aggravating party being kicked out of the campaign.
Why a strictly mage campaign though?
This was originally going to be an internal campaign which we decided to open up, in an attempt to revive mage RP in the server. The KTI (hosting guild) has seen the coming and going of many mage-themed guilds who sadly never managed to stick around; and so as the only long-standing Kirin Tor guild on AD (4 years and counting!), we are aiming to bring together all the lonely mage characters scattered across different hubs, guildless or not, so that hopefully networking and RP opportunities can happen.
