Similarities between Illidan, Tyrande and Maiev

With recent changes to Tyrandes Character is anyone else finding the similarities between her, Maiev and Illidan. She fights now with Warglaives like Illidan and is a Hunter hunting her pray ( Sylvanas) like Maiev hunted Illidan and Illidan hunted the Legion. The three of them don’t give up till they find and kill what they have been hunting and Illidans and Tyrandes Eyes have changed. And like Maiev she has become impatient, reckless and would travel to another Realm just to hunt her pray

That’s because same people working on the same lore all the time. That’s the reason why we see parallels everywhere.
Blizzard need new people, than we will see new lore.

I am just waiting till Tyrande gets some Wings or new Shoulderpards and keeps saying that she sacrificed everything in a Patch or 2

Tyrande is nothing like Illidan. Illidan kill innocent people to futher his goal, Tyrande is killing herself to get revenge for her people.

A very good point actually I totally forgot that.

I would prefer Illidan in the position of Tyrande. The Illidari need a new prey.

yeah but his goal is one that all our characters benefit from now. he played crucial part in the defeat of the burning legion. even though he was extremely fixated on legion’s extermination for personal reasons, it didn’t really matter, as the legion was objective evil for azeroth.

Illidan literally did nothing important in argus campagin. We could have literally done it without his help

if anything he hindered it slightly by blowing up Xera, though you could argue he persuaded velen to have a more proactive mindset instead of just relying on faith in the ligh

I’m not talking about what he did or didn’t do in Legion. I’m talking about what he did through his whole lifetime.

This parallel betwenn Maiev and Tyrande switching the roles they carried had cought my eye in BFA beggining - how Maiev had to go through what Tyrande did in burrow dens, of “Enemy of my enemy is my friend” concept. Freeing DH-s from prison, and Tyrande literally giving in vengeance as Maiev did chasing Illidan.

I guess they needed edgy arc so instead of Maiev with her bad rep taking that mantle, they switched it around to Tyrande as more likable character.

they are setting tyrande up for the sacrificial altar. and i do not know why i dont want that to happen.

I still think one day we’ll see her finally come to her senses and realise she picked the wrong brother. Probably just in time for Illidan to resurface in Legions Return/TBC 3.0

At least I hope. The whole storyline between those three was so badly done I have no words

Of course, the raging Elephant in the room was that Illidan had to be retconned like crazy to become a good guy (who still somehow made other people sacrifice more than him, but he’s the real hero, honest! Man, the preamble before the first boss in Vault of the Wardens sums pre-retcon Illidan vs Maiev so perfectly…), whereas Tyrande and Maiev always had the vengeance/Justice at any cost planned from the start of their storyline.

Still waiting for the explanation for Maiev being accepted back into night elf society though. Could be a brilliant character piece, but no, we need everyone else delved into.

Tyrande using warglaives doesn’t make her fight like Illidan. It makes her fight like a traditional Kaldorei. Look up the Night Elf banner. What do you see? Yes, that’s a warglaive right in the middle. Even Maiev uses a variant of the glaives, called Umbra Cresent. So no, she’s still nothing like Illidan.

Maiev was considered for a brief moment to be the Night Warrior, however, the devs felt like she had her character arc in Legion, so they passed the post to Tyrande. That’s why she acts like a budget Maiev. They simply pasted her over another character.

The only thing I can agree with is the parallel between Tyrande now and Maiev in the past. Sadly, they forgot that Maiev exists (again) so they won’t use this opportunity to end their millennia-long rivalry. They could write an awesome scenario where Maiev tells Tyrande just how meaningless her vengeance was, how she felt nothing when she achieved her goal and killed Illidan, telling her how much she had lost because of her own hate-filled blindness. Tyrande still has her husband and daughter, live for them, don’t sacrifice everything for something as hollow as vengeance. It’s too late for Maiev, she burned too many bridges, vengeance and hatred are the only things that she has now but Tyrande can still change her path.

But this is Blizzard we’re talking about, they don’t even remember that Maiev/Tyrande rivalry is a thing, or that even Maiev is a thing…
