Simming weapons

hey guys

there are crafted 447 weapons with the same dps, but different low to high damage. (axes/fistweapons/swords etc…)

i’m pretty sure there are minmaxers out there, but is there a difference?

for example, if you had:

weapon A: 50 - 150 damage (100 average DPS)

weapon B: 90 - 110 damage (100 average DPS)

would there be an actual dps difference? because someone did a sim for me where there was a slight dps difference with 100,000 sim hits.

yes i know there isn’t much difference (if there is any), but i’ve been curious on what is better to have.

do i go for a super low to a super high damage weapon? or do i go for a slightly higher lower damage, and a lower top damage?

thanks

The logical thing would be to sim the weapons

Depends on the fight (length and mechanics and such) and the class/spec.
Bursty dps vs steady dps and such.

i have done that, but every time i simmed it gave me a different dps.

sometimes for example it would give me axe as top for dps, when i sim again it would give me fistweapons.

was very close difference, but was just curious if there is any difference.

outlaw rogue.

do i go for more sustain? for the example given above, the 90-110 (100 dps) one?

There is no difference, the vast majority of weapon damage calculations for abilities use average damage not maximum. It’s just flavour. Sims will show different ones winning because there is always some amount of variance when simming, especially if the differences you’re looking for are already small.

You can reduce the variance by turning up the number of iterations / decreasing the step granularity but that makes the sim take longer and generally isn’t necessary for most things.
