I don’t know if this is a good idea but I wanted to simplify nameplates for enemies, like enemy players and other rabble, and have regular nameplates for citizens of the horde.
That’s not an option. I may only simplify nameplates for my team.
I understand that’s useful for a damage dealer but for a healer I think that’s bad, objectively.
I need to be able to see the enemies, what is going on with them. Maybe I can stun or attack someone that’s struggling. And I need to see the difference between enemy and friend.
I haven’t played any pvp yet but the few things I’ve seen has led me to believe the nameplates are displayed the same for enemies and friends, which is why I wanted to simplify the nameplates for one of parties.
Is there a different way to do this? Any guidance you can offer? UI is not my expertise.
I also don’t really know where to post this, so I’ll throw it in general and let it be swallowed by the tide.
I am not really sure if I understand what you want, can you try to describe it a bit more specific?
If I understood it right, you want a better visual difference between enemy player and friendly player? There is an addon called MiniMarkers (kinda what SweepyBoop’s PvP Helper did), which puts marks on your teammates while you can use regular nameplates for enemies.
I think you can achieve what you want with some addons like plater.
You are able to customize enemy nameplate to a very basic point that they hardly matter to you, and then leave the ally nameplates in the default state. You will just have to figure out the options yourself.
I have been in bed all night, I suffer with insomnia (it’s a joy) This is my third night of not being able to fall asleep, only managing to grab a power nap at some point. Will try to power through until evening without a nap this time and see if exhaustion will just win out.
I tried platinator bcs its still cringe. I can change how looks nameplates friendly I can change how looks enemy bit! Enemy before was red but now they looks totaly same I don’t understand it’s friend or enemy. Even friend told me that mate on bg run from him bcs he was think it’s player from enemy team lol. This new blizzard nameplates absolutely unplayable. Many people complain about. I as healer before midnight was playing with standard name plates and I can see good my teammates in bg and enemy! Enemy nameplate was red! But now they absolutely same
I have done some work related to Nameplates to solve my problems, but I desisted because Blizzard protected UI overrides the code that I have, not allowing to be active for example inside Timewalking Dungeons.
If you wish, you can write your addon and use the following code for your needs (I don’t care about my author rights )
Create the folder Interface\AddOns\md9fiss
Inside that folder create the md9fiss.toc file with the following content:
link > notepad.pw/share/a3jahdlw
Inside same folder create the md9fiss.lua with the following content:
link > notepad.pw/share/a045111qt
I tried to keep the Blizzard Nameplates default behavior, just added stuff that I required to zones that nameplates should not use, avoiding conflicts with Blizzard UI and maintaining the Blizzard UI full behavior. If you detect some addon failure, please test the same without the addon loaded and probably you will notice that the addon isn’t the problem.
You can adjust your preference settings here:
local ENABLE_CLASS_NAMES = false
local ENABLE_OUTLINED_FONT = true
local ENABLE_CLASS_BAR = true
local ENABLE_CLASS_ICON = true
local ENABLE_ROLE_BORDER = true
If other addons can’t help, you may try this to see if it works better for your purposes…
(Note: I will not maintain this and I already desist to continue the development… for the next weeks or months I will play TBC instead.)
Note to Blizzard: Please, if you consider that i am violating your restrictions by providing links, please understand that it was done just with the good intention for helping a player that want to keep playing your game.
But not plater. Even tho it seems like it has tons of settings, the actual options are extremely limited, while you have a billion clicks to make and the settings are all over the place.
The only real good with plater is that you can mark mobs properly. In every other aspec Platynator right now is much better imo.
What works for me right now is to turn off the names for enemies and keep names for friends. That makes it fairly obvious who is who.
But when targeting someone, the name will show regardless, which makes it somewhat confusing.
“Did I have a friend targeted…?”
Yes. Idk if you have to delete the old one and install the new one but plater works. I am not using it cause I don’t like it tho, so not sure if it’s completely the same or has a few less functions.
Doesn’t feel reliable to use an addon, it never did.
But what works works.
Would be good if I could simplify nameplates for enemies instead of friends though, that would help me.
Yes it does, it doesn’t have as much functionality as before as it is also a reskin of Blizzard damage meter. But it still looks similar and allows multiple windows with different things in them.
