Single Player Dungeons

What do people think about single player dungeons?

I think there is something quite awesome about a single player dungeon(or a trial dungeon similar to POE1 and POE2 trial dungeons).

It could serve as a class attunement/rite of passage into raids/world PVP.

It could have abilities/items/end of long quest chains as rewards for completing it.

There are many cool ideas on the internet, of course. Just curious to see what people think. I never played retail, and as an old vanilla player I personally think this is something that could prove a lot of fun.

Thoughts?

In PoE, I did enjoy those trial/challenge dungeons. But PoE is primarily a single player game, so those trials fit into the design.

Forever on the other hand is aiming to be a social multi player game. If you want to play solo, the best you should be able to do is to quest in the open world until 60. But I think if Blizz would add instanced content for solo players, that would ruin the MMO feel of the game.

Single player dungeons?

No.

However 3 player dungeons would be interesting that could be done with any random setup, so no tank or healer required.

No.

Dungeons = 5 man.

Raids =>10 man

This is exactly why retail is a convoluted mess because the plethora of different systems and mechanics.

Blizzard will kill the game if they start doing rubbish like 3 man dungeons like in MOP. What’s next? Adding a challenge mode to complete the dungeon in? Mythic and mythic + next?

I don’t think this is really a good argument. A player spends a lot of time playing solo, even past level 60. Farming for raids, questing. The argument ‘it is called an MMO’ is a cheap way for people to actually come up with a good reason against it. In fact, players already have class-speciffic quests which require solo effort, and I will argue these are some of the most memorable and compelling quest chains in the game.

Apart from that, I never said nothing against world PvP and the social aspect of the game. I don’t see how a unique single-player, class speciffic dungeon can take away from your overall expirience. If you do, please use more words to describe the actual issue.

They have them in retail, They are called Delves. And they are quite fun actually, One of the better parts of retail.

A good idea is a good idea, even if it comes from POE. Never played retail, but I can only imagine it being fun. Something that is challenging and difficult. I will still enjoy a raid and ganking IF like any other person.

I believe raids should be at least 15-man to satisfy the number of dps . we have 3 tank specs- 5 healers and 20 dps .

A bigger format, but not an exaggerated one, would satisfy the player base.

A for single etc. You have already retail ( and yes it’s about retails since everything posted is things from retails flying- professions - raids etc.. )

Pretty much you want another version of what retail has ..

They are now considering 80-120 raids for world PvP(if you watched the latest podcast). If you ask me, this could be fun, too. Still, my vote will be for a single-player dungeon every day of the week.

The idea might fit in the framework of modern WoW but it is clearly anathema to the central concepts WoW Forever is based upon.

Now of course if you want an instanced single player challenge you can enter any dungeon on your own and try to solo it. I once managed to solo a lot of SFK on a Paladin that wasn’t that much higher levelled than the intended level range. Same is true for duos and 3-player groups. Make your own challenges in the world.

This is a good point. BRD is a good example, too. I personally loved farming for the HOJ as a rogue. One might say that if one looks for a challenge, one will always find it. Still, an intentional dungeon could be a lot of fun.

No, if you want to do a dungeon on your own. Find a way to do a 5 man dungeon on your own. That is the vanilla / classic way. Good luck! Else go play retail.

And I dislike delves. Can’t be bothered by them.

I think that a single-player, class-speciffic dungeon that tests your understanding of your class and your abilities can be a lot of fun. But there is something to be said about player creativity, too. In truth, we don’t know yet what level 60 will look like, and how high-level dungeons will feel, and how new items will affect outcomes. Perhaps it’s too early to ask for that, perhaps there is fun to be found somewhere down the line.

Imagine the horror of the dungeon being a challenge.

The problem with any solo content, that it is either a minigame that has no connection with the rest of the game, which is against the classic-vanilla concept, or if it adds any significant advantage, then it becomes mandatory homework because of the minmaxing mentality of the playerbase.

This boils down to design. If it’s integrated well into the lore, it could prove a lot of fun. Viewing it as homework is the wrong mentality to have from the get-go.

Also, I wish people woulld take down their blinders off already. The game is no longer vanilla/classic, no matter how much you wish it to be. You have skyborne, new dungeons, new quests, new items, new racials, etc. It is a different game, in a different time - this is just the reality of things.

It does not have to be classic/vanilla, but it should not derail the original concept.

The reason many people dislike retail for is that it became a different kind of game than classic.

Indeed, however that’s what it would become like it or not.

Retail suffers from too much solo play, but let us introduce some more? Hmmm..??

This is some 40K inquisitor dialogue. You talk like it’s a religion, like it would be heretical to do something new.

Thankfully, this is neither classic, or vanilla.

OP is asking for the addition of solo challenges, not the replacement of the existing multiplayer ones. There’s a pleasure that comes from beating the game as part of team, and there’s another pleasure that comes from beating the game with only your own skill and wits.
