Was thinking of what would be a fun mechanic in dungeons that also fulfils the fantasy of each class.
So even though I don’t play rogue, my mind went there first and it immediately jumped to assassinate. Once per dungeon, a rogue can choose a single target and assassinate them outside of combat that isn’t a boss.
Then I got priest which would allow you to permanently mind control or convert a single target for the duration of the dungeon that isn’t a boss. This would be separate from the regular mind control in combat. and would act more like a guardian, instead of a pet.
Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and ideas on this for other classes.
if I like the idea or if everyone agrees with someone’s else I’ll add them in my first post if this gets any traction.
Idea reminds me a lot of “Limitbreakers” from FF14.
Not saying I disagree with the idea. But I would rather have “Ultimates” (or better said “Ultimate” Hero Talents) instead of one-time use abilities.
Like, just handle it well with cooldowns. The haste buffs like Bloodlust and co, give you a 10 minutes cooldown that only vanishes after death/wipe or when running out as far as I know.
Imagine this, we get ultimate abilities, but we can only use them once individually every 15 minutes due to a debuff applied to use like with Bloodlust (and co.). But the ability itself recharges already after 5 minutes.
But the general WoW commulity will mostly see it as just another reason not to invite class X to do content Y, and then turn around and whine on the forums about why someone else get´s a 200% haste buff for 5 seconds but they “only” get a flat x million damage and so on and so forth, automatically making the other class ultramegaOP, and thereby the entire reason they don´t get invites.
I’d say that having certain non-combat-oriented perks would be good. And those perks could be related not just to one’s class, but also to race or professions. We have had many of those in the past in one form or another, for example:
Rogues can lockpick a locked treasure chest and everyone gets additional treasure
Druids can talk to a critter that will reward a treasure
Gnomes and Vulpera can be the only races that can go underneath a certain obstacle due to low height, and opening a shortcut for the rest of the group (or the path to another treasure)
Tauren and Dwarves, as the sturdiest ones, can pass through a “hot” path to more treasure
Engineers can enable a mecha that follows the group around that sells… additional treasure.
Jewelcrafters can assemble a broken glass that will point to a door with treasure
etc.
Note that treasure doesn’t need to be gold or green items. It can be additional loot as if defeating a boss or crests, which is what players are after in dungeons and raids.
And it should go without saying that the requirements should be entirely random so they cannot be abused or farmed.
