The mount Sinrunner Blanchy makes a constantly eerie ethereal sound when you ride it (I’m not talking about the sound it makes when you summon it). Does anyone know the sound ID, so I can mute it? I’ve been looking all over the internet for this. Wowhead associates a lot of different sounds with Sinrunner Blanchy and I believe I have muted all of them but to no avail. I even installed the addon Sound ID Finder. The addon works by randomly muting half of all sound files until it hits the correct one, but it never mutes the sound the mount makes.
With all due respect, we have over a thousand mounts you can choose from that dont sound eerie. Why give yourself such a hard time messing with files and sound IDs?
“Validate”? What are you talking about? I’m asking a question. And instead of being helpful, you decide to take time out of your no doubt busy schedule to tell me that I shouldn’t look for sound ID’s. You literally have nothing better to do?
OP literally asked for the sound ID so they can mute it in their game, they didnt ask for your opinion on why you think they shouldnt mute it and should just use a different mount.
… I have no idea if the following works but did a quick Google and saw this …
To turn off specific mount sounds in World of Warcraft, you can
use an addon like Leatrix Plus or manually replace the sound file with a blank one. There is no built-in option in the default game UI to mute only mount sounds; you can only mute all game sounds or a specific mount’s sound file through addons or manual modification.
Using Addons (Recommended for ease of use)
Install an addon: The most convenient method is to use a quality-of-life addon such as Leatrix Plus.
Find the settings: After installing, open the addon’s settings menu (often accessed by typing /leatrix or /ltp into the chat, then navigating to the “System” or “Graphics and Sound” section).
Mute specific mounts: Leatrix Plus and similar addons often include specific options to mute the sounds of certain mounts, such as the “Fish” mount or mechanical mounts, directly through the addon’s settings without needing to find sound file IDs.
Manually Replacing Sound Files (More complex, for specific mounts)
This method requires more technical steps but can mute specific mounts if an addon isn’t available or desired for that mount.
Identify the sound file: You’ll need to find the exact name of the sound file for the mount you want to mute. For example, the Gnome Mechastrider’s loop sound is called mechastriderloop.ogg.
Locate the sound folder: Navigate to your World of Warcraft installation folder.
Create the correct folder structure: Create a new folder structure within the sound directory, mirroring the game’s file path. For example, if muting the Mechastrider, create _classic_ > sound > creature > mechastrider.
Create a blank sound file: Inside the newly created folder (e.g., mechastrider), create a blank text file with the exact name and extension of the original sound file (e.g., mechastriderloop.ogg).
Log in to apply changes: The game will now play this blank file instead of the original mount sound, effectively muting it.
Thank you for the suggestion Nilari. Leatrix Plus is a great addon for this and other things. The trouble is, I need to locate the sound file in order to mute or replace it.
You asked a question in a public space. You then got a perspective that didn’t mirror your frustration. If that triggered this kind of reaction, then yes, validation is exactly what you were looking for.
And you’re free to ask. But others are also free to challenge how much time and energy is worth spending chasing a mount sound. That’s how discussion works.
If my input wasn’t helpful to you, that’s fine, but let’s not pretend you’re here on the moral high ground.
I didn’t say you shouldn’t. I said it might not be worth the trouble, especially when you have hundreds of alternatives.
You’ve spent more time trying to mute Blanchy, but sure, tell me how I’m wasting my time
Players have reported that the ethereal whinny/whisper loop doesn’t have its own unique sound file but instead reuses a ghostly ambience channel. That’s why muting individual IDs won’t catch it.
What worked for some:
• Mute entire “Ghostly Wail” sound group (common across undead/ghost mobs).
• Or, disable looped mount sounds via addons like Leatrix Plus (it has a sound management module that can silence constant mount noises without killing all ambience).
Practical Fix
Try this macro to test possible related IDs (swap with numbers players reported, like 165907 or 171314):
/run MuteSoundFile(165907)
/run MuteSoundFile(171314)
If that fails, then the only reliable option right now is an addon that can silence looping creature ambience while mounted. Leatrix Plus is the easiest, because it has specific sound muting options for mounts like Headless Horseman’s, Blanchy, etc.
The problem is that addons like MuteSoundFile or Sound ID Finder don’t always catch persistent looping sounds, because they are often tied to looped ambient or creature channels, not to the standard mount sound triggers.
You’ll need to:
• Enable /console Sound_EnableSFX 0 then toggle channels one by one to isolate it (e.g., /console Sound_EnableAmbience 0).
• Alternatively, use /run print(SoundKitID) macros while riding the mount (some addons like BugSack can help catch the error when sound plays).
To find the Sinrunner Blanchy mount’s sound file, you can
use the MuteSoundFile addon and a sound ID database like wow.tools/files/. First, install the MuteSoundFile addon, then search on wow.tools/files/ for “Sinrunner Blanchy” or “Blanchy” to find the sound’s ID, which is 3587276. Open the addon in-game by typing /msf, paste the ID into the Sound ID field, and click “Mute this Sound”.
Using MuteSoundFile (Recommended Method)
Install the Addon: Download and install the “MuteSoundFile” addon from CurseForge or another addon website.
I use Blanchy all the time but I never bothered by the sound, I didn’t even know it had one because in Dornogal is always a zoo, with roaring, mooing, foxes, dragons, din dins, the least of my worrying is a whooo from my mount
