I’m a returning player from Legion and even though I checked a couple topics and youtube videos I couldn’t find a definite answer.
My question is that if I were to progress with a plate wearing class through the SL campaign and choose a covenant, will the covenant set be unlocked for all armor types or is it only for plate?
If the case is that it unlocks for only one specific armor type I wont even bother going through the anguish that is SL campaign.

If you ask about the set you get from quests. You can only unlock the set for your armor type for now. It will be changed next patch. You will then unlock all armor and weapon type rewards from any quest you complete. That change will be retroactive so it will apply to every quest you completed in before the patch.
Renown sets should be available to purchase with all armor types. Reputation ones also. The sets obtained from special features of specific Covenant I’m not sure how it works with new transmog collecting rules.
