Hi Blizzard,
Since approximately yesterday evening the game client has been slow to load up. After a lot of troubleshooting I have determined that this is being caused by issues with the initial HTTP handshake the game client makes to Battle.net before fully launching the WoW client.
I do not get this when tethering on my mobile connection, and I do not get this when running through a VPN.
One explanation for this is that on my normal internet connection the client is attempting to contact a different server ending in x.x.64.6 which is causing a lot of TCP retransmits.
When the game quickly loaded just now on my VPN, it was instead contacting x.x.64.1 which quickly worked. The conversation between the battle.net telemetry server and the news server looks pretty similar in both captures.
It looks like the problem is for whatever reason it’s slow to pull down the WoW config file from the Battle.net servers.
This might be my ISP is accidentally interfering with the traffic, or it might possibly be server(s) not working properly within the pool you are using.
I am happy to provide the captures if this is of any use, but obviously don’t want to put my network details or yours out there in a public forum!
Note that I’ve not noticed any issues in game or authenticating - this is purely a problem with loading the game client to begin with.
