Slow paced ranged dps class for beginner

Hello all!

So I’m a beginner and I’d like to know what in your opinion are some of the slower paced ranged DPS specs and not all too complicated. I know hunter will probably be one of the answers, but I was interested in which other classes are also not too complicated and slower paced so I can try some to see which one clicks better with me.

An example of a class I definately want to avoid is balance druid, because the eclipse system makes it too fast paced to me and it stresses me out of keeping track of a timer all the time aswell in order to do somewhat decent DPS.

So what could you guys recommend?

Elemental Shaman is really simple. We don’t move that much either (sometimes called turrets). Not a lot of spells and they’re either quite slow to cast (Lightning Bolts) or instant shocks. We don’t rely on Proc windows in which we have to react one way or do specific spells in.

Worth giving it a go.

I agree with Elemental Shaman. Good suggestion.

Ret paladin is also really slow, but to the point where it’s boring.

mage :stuck_out_tongue:

Destruction warlock

hmm

Casters by default are lower APM then melee, however ranged generally are more reliant on positioning and key set up.

as a example, Mages have few abilities as they got school locked in their respective. however, put down Rune of power in a bad position that ur forced off will cost u ALOT of DPS.

as a fire mage, its very easy to throw urself down to tank level DPS by simply incorrectly using CDs at wrong times, arcane mage is simplistic by design, but it has 2 rotations and doing burn phases incorrectly will make u do 0 DPS Also.

Im ironically a Rogue main, but want to give Mage another shot… but i ye im tank level DPS by self admittance, even being adjusted to fast rotations and more i cant get a handle on the class at all currently xD

i think Casters generally have quirks which require to be learnt, i’d just pick one and simply break it down and work on the rotation section by section til u grasp the case… every class will get easier once muscle memory kicks in.

i’ll be honest the rotations in this game are far easier than othe rmmorpgs imo…

just pick one and they are pretty straight forward to play correctly.

as long as you have common sense.

on a side note…

most fun rotation class i ever played in a mmorpg is black mage. in ff14.

definition of fun casting rotation and big pay offs.

BM Hunter or Ret Paladin for sure.

black mage, while i do like the fact it utilises 2 seperate modes… its rotation is very simple, however severely punishing if ur positioning isnt top notch realistically.

Hence why alot of black mages prog on Red mage, to learn the fight to then excel with Black mage.

FFXIVs rotations i wouldnt call complex mostly either, Monk was difficult til they gutted its Difficulty, and Ninjas gott ALOT easier to play during its Rework in Shadowbringers.

ninja was pretty intense to learn as well at one point…

you literally could not do the openers correctly at one point in time because the server latency wouldn’t let you…

that was since resolved…

not sure how they play since the last expansion , not played it myself.

i was a ninja main during that time.

Yeah Ninjas Difficulty got removed and its very playable aty any latancy.

im afraid, FFXIV did also go down the route of removing Class Difficulty in later Expansions. i used to main Ninja it got very boring after its Rework. if u look at class complexity from back in Heavensward and Then today… u will see things have gotten easier and easier

sad to hear… like most things the difficulty goes to appeal to the wow crowd once they start migrating over lol.

EDIT: heavensward is when i played ff14 at my peak… was 99% in eu for a while until i decided to focus on RL and my health instead.

I think FFXIV Knows they’ll never hold down WoW players, generally alot of WoW players do play FFXIV aswell though, FFXIV Doesnt drop content at a rate a WoW player can tolerate.

Look at Scottzone when he moved, he Adored the game back in Stormbloods End of Expansion, however Shadowbringers Dropped he lasted less then 2 months… and it got pretty bad when it critasied the games Content drop cycle.

That shinangians caused him to completely leave the internet, after he was Doxx’d sent a picture of his house and told they’d kill him he didnt remove himself from the FFXIV Community :P…

WoW Players arent really welcomed much there either xD

yea the base ff14 player HATE wow players…

i never seen such a burning hate towards something before lol.

Because they know our wants are the complete opposite to theirs so they dont want FFXIV Detering to cater to us at all. The content WoW Does, with Mythic raiding, Mythic+ Etc etc is Nightmare fuel for their playerbase.

its not a bad thing. these games just attract polar opposites in terms of audience.

yeah have to agree there…
its sad that people just cant get along though…

anyways was nice chatting but i gotta go cya

Cya around ^^

have a good day

The question is - what is “pace” for you? Is it how fast you need to click the buttons, to react, etc.?

As strange as it sounds - boomkin is probably one of the simpliest classes: you spam one button, dump resourse, spam other button, spen resourse, repeat. It doesn’t get simplier than that.

As for other ones:

  • frost mage is very simple one, but very “spammy” once everything starts procing.
  • destro lock is another easy one - keep 1dot, spam generator and dump with chaos bolts. Again, super easy rotation.

I see some people recommending elemental, which I feel is a bait. Elemental rotation is much more complicated, than just “generate-spend”. You need to weave lava bursts in between the spells, you need to be precise and fast not to lose fire elemental, you need to use procs correctly, you have million keybinds, etc. I just feel elemental shammy is more complicated than hunter/boomy/destro lock/…

But, whatever you choose - just lean towards what you like, you will learn the rotation very quickly.

I just love my BM hunters, they are very forgiving. As somebody who is a keyboard turner and clicker I need something abit easier to play!

Also warlock is pretty good in this respect too. Basically both classes have a tanking pet which takes alot of stress off you if you mess up.
Hunters have the advantage of being able to ‘hide’ or drop aggro which is great.
Locks have some great self heals and demonology is really fun IMO.
