There’s always as many Elves as the plot demands.
basicly, yeah.
I never said “must not” anywhere. I am not about to dictate the RP of you nor anyone else. What I am saying is that I feel players should put consideration into the question of should. You pay for your own time in the game and as such the decision about what you want to do with it is entirely yours - but so do I, and as such I am equally entitled to my own opinions on the subject.
It is a discussion on the subject, not a debate as to how to mitigate the number of how many is allowed to play [Insert Race]. Personally I will not dictate who must do what. If anyone feels that they do want to, say, “reduce” the potential number, say, High Elf players then this is the way to go about it; pose the question and discuss. Whoever reads it can determine themselves if they feel like they should or should not.
As a consumer the decision is entirely up to you. I will not shun anyone or rant about the character to someone else. That is, as you say, lame.
We’ve been doing that for a while now.
Unless you approve of people RPing Jaina, Anduin, Sylvanas, Nathan, etc.
sure we have, if we take it out of context
Well you answered my question and clarified what you were saying. Got nothing more to say on the subject myself, so I’m good.
While very pointed it is true, yes. Sometimes there has to be some form of mitigation, at the very least suggested. Otherwise we may have to host a cadre of Sandfury Trolls, a family of kobolds and every niche dragon roleplayer in the middle of the Valley of Honor.
And so we come full circle to the OPs question in a way wether something is accepted or not.
I think it´s generally accepted, at least majorly accepted. I think there are more players who already accepted a player roleplaying as a High Elf (wether using a human or a belf model/using the orb toy) and just see the void elf as another option. I do feel that most players called out the coming of the void elf with “everyone will go RP them as high elves lul” with the intention to just poke fun with it, but not necessarily making a verbal stand to disallow other players to use them to RP as their High Elf characters.
To me personally, if you make a void elf character and use the model-settings that helps you resemble the visual high elf your character is supposed to be (and not pick a strong purple skin with a very void-like hairstyle) then it would be so easy to see you as a high elf character! Using a black haired human with a dark skin would be offputting if I can be honest. If we use transmogs to portray the right gear for our characters, we should use the most fitting race as well right?
All in all, I’m not sure if we’ll ever RP together. So I’ll repeat what has been said already: You do you OP, go play that High Elf character. I think you’ll find enough people in the RP world that’ll happily roleplay with you.
I’d rather people roleplay neither, honestly.
The RPG, probably. The same RPG that listed Stormwind’s total population at the ridiculous number of 200,000 and then changed it in errata when they realized that they made Stormwind more populous than the entire rest of the world combined.
I think if you’re willing to forego sticking to the neutral territories (no Stormwind, no Orgrimmar), you can get away with a Belf DK as a physrep, it would be much closer too.
As it stands, try to stick to visual consistency, so no voidy hairstyles and tone down the purple.
Like many players have said, RP what you wish to RP.
Sure there are going to be players that will be thinking lowly of you make fun of you etc, but then there will be players who will come and engage with you, speak to your avatar as a Helf and in the end of the day let your RP speak for your char and not other players
Just do it, if people can pull of “Not a Death Knight/Demon hunter IC”, or “not a Human but a Vrykul”, you can pull this off if you want!
I would imagine that void elves are much less populous than high elves. Void elves seem to be an anomaly born from an accident that affected a pretty small number of exiles from Silvermoon, and it’s not like they can reliably create any more, except possibly the old fashioned way.
High elves, at the very least, have enough people to sustain some kind of military presence in the Alliance.
Ultimately, I think people playing void elves as high elves is less than ideal, but ultimately inevitable. High elves are pretty popular, and people are going to want to do something with that race whether they’re playable or otherwise. The other other blue elves race is just the closest people can get to that right now.
(I had no idea I could still post even though my subscription has lapsed… it’s over for you guys now tbh)
Personally I say void elves were a race that were only added;
As an offbalance to lightforged
As an offbalance to horde getting something very similar to a night elf
The story didn’t create them, someone with more regard to arbitrary balance that doesn’t affect the game created them
By now they have become established but I do not blame nor Will I ridicule people who use them to play the high elves that should have existed, if only for the cross faction rp potential
While I and many others are not a fan of the overabundance of elves in general, there’s this general idea that Void elves can pass as High Elves indeed. There is also the option of the prism thing as well as using a human instead, but as long as you put it nice and clear in your RP addon you should be just fine
But if you really wanna play a High Elf, Horde’s there waiting for you.
Sorry, but apparently since people spent years unable to get over the glowing eyes of ((not a DK IC)) so no, you can’t play a void elf as a high elf because skin colour is much too big of a deal to imagine your way past.
DKs are also rotting, they smell and have really weird voices.
It’s not ideal to play a High Elf with a Void Elf model, but I suppose it’s better than the even more jarring human or even worse NIGHT ELF models.
Though I don’t see what’s so bad as playing a Void Elf who was a High Elf previously, that’s what I do.
I’ve got a lot of different answers, would say my conclusion is that the community is a little divided, as with many unconventional things really. This one here is a regular former blood elf void elf but I think it’s ok to play it as a high elf
