So... Any Monster Hunter Guilds?

I see a lot of Militia, House, and Mercenary guilds mentioned but I’ve scarcely seen or heard of a guild that specifically tackles monsters? I don’t necessarily wish to join a Silver Hand guild simply because I picked a Paladin class, either.

If anyone knows where I can find a group of individuals who enjoy venturing into dungeons, ruins and such, I’d appreciate it. That and tackling hardcore void forces.

Yeah that did come to mind when I made this post. Seems like people aren’t up for monster killing.

A while back there was a monster hunting guild in Duskwood. I know they dont advertise on the forums but if you are interested in monster hunting then I suggest having a look there.

Monster hunting is often a really niche sort of rp, often really weird with like loads of straight up taking things from other games to put them into wow. I.E the Witcher mutagen and mutation stuff, which is really weird.

But yeah, Duskwood might be your best bet tbh. And check AA to see if you can’t find anything there.

Probably best doing some hunting in Outland.

Have you seen the monster list of this game? It is huge. You can hunt anywhere you want. My worgen hunts monsters now and then, yet it is not exactly his occupation.

I agree.
In duskwood alone we had:

  • Feral Worgen
  • killer spiders
  • necromancers
  • an abomination who killed its master.
  • roaming band of skeletons
  • a banshee
  • a killer tree elemental
  • a demon (we got help from some demon hunters)
  • a wild boar that got high on strength potions
  • and an overarching story involving a blood witch.
And a couple of others I forgot. Its RP I remember fondly.

I guess if you are into that sort of thing nobody is going to stop you. Though the RP experience I’ve had was usually just about some hunters looking to make a quick buck or a name for themselves.

Mind you, monster hunting isn’t something the “hero of azeroth” would do. Since higher tier characters can just fart a monster to death. The real challange comes when farmer joe has to take his rifle and muster up enough courage not to run away. In my experience its more fun too.
More than once we’ve had our fun ruined by a wandering pack of death knights who ’ came to save the day’ by killing a monster that took us hours to track and ambush.

Is it though?

I mean, I am sure there are characters like that just as there are characters in every other niche (also concepts that aren’t necessarily niche concepts) who forget they play WoW and not some other game.

But at least the rare solitary monster hunters I’ve come across in rp aren’t that OTT at all. Nothing they have done is something far fetched in this universe. In fact, the whole monster hunter concept isn’t that far fetched in this universe at all. Just quest around the world (of warcraft) and you’ll find plenty of monsters to hunt.

But maybe I have just been lucky.

I’ve actually thought up a concept for a guild of hunters that target all manner of void spawn, and I’d like to make it, but I am an incredibly crappy leader, and I know how much effort and stress it can be to lead a guild…

Makes it a bit off-putting.

You don’t have to be a leader to enjoy such a storyline.
You could always join a like minded guild or community and then suggest your idea to the guild leader. You can even run the campaign yourself if the guild leader permits it.

I’m sure there are guild leaders who would jump at the opportunity to have someone in their guild who could host events in their stead. Constantly planning events to keep your guildies happy is time consuming.

Okay but why tho?

We are playing a game with an abundance of mythical, fantasy creatures. From dragons to undead monstrosities, giants as well as giant sizes animals. Not to mention other worldly creatures such as Demons.

Why would you ever need to bring in things from other games just to make these creatures worth fighting?

I realise that player characters tend to fight such things on their own but over the expansions we’ve very much become the “Hero” who would take them on alone but I wouldn’t expect the average Stormwind Footman to take on a Sea Giant by themselves, nevermind the average population.

Don’t see what would be ‘weird’ about a guild of monster hunters working together to bring down these bigger threats, especially during a time of war when the majority of armies and Hero level characters are off fighting on the frontlines.

Hell, the whole introduction to Human players back before Cataclysm was that Stormwinds forces were spread too thin bringing rise to characters such as your own effectively going out and filling in the holes that Stormwind couldn’t cover at the time.

I’m quite interested in this sort of concept. I’ll keep an eye on this thread!

I think you answered your own question there. Most players are so powerful that they get nothing out of killing a random patrolling monster.
I actually saw this happen when I invited a friend to join us for some monster hunting RP in Darkshire. Going out to track the monster was terrifying for me, but he had just returned from Argus. So after half a year of killing demons, he didn’t find the monster hunting aspect that exciting.

That is what I meant when I said that its not fot everyone. If your character is a death knight, lightforged or demon hunter, this kind of work will be beneath their abilities. For a more exciting experience, I would suggest scaling down your character.

Or scaling up the monsters. You don’t have to scale down your character at all for monster hunting to be immersive.

Just because the monster you are hunting is some level 25 elite roaming Duskwood mechanic-wise doesn’t mean storywise he doesn’t bring absolute terror to the region. It doesn’t mean it’s not a real, serious thread. If this monster wasn’t scary strong and powerful the Night Watch would’ve taken care of it themselves. But they can’t so they are calling in the experts: the badass hunters of monsters.

If people rp their characters as finding these tasks beneath their abilities because they’ve lived a lifetime and/or fought in the most gruesome battles they don’t understand how to properly immerse themselves in the setting.

Or, ya know, treat big, dangerous foes as actual threats rather than an inconvenience. Just because you’re strong doesn’t mean the enemy isn’t scary. Even if you kill 12 gnolls by punching in a straight line, there’s 120 more to swarm you and make a tent from your demigod hide.

Sea giants are terrifying, not Tuesday and apparently eat people. Storytelling make such an encounter interesting and demon hunters and space marines have very narrow expertise that make local threats a genuine unfamiliar danger.

Hieronymus Hellfist charges, expecting an easy fight but the enormous tel’abim trapdoor spider drags him underground! Tragic. Many things your PC kills casually are terrible threats.

Don’t have the answer to that? I reckon you’d do it because you’d rather want to play Witcher idk.
I don’t really care about ‘hunting monsters’ go knock yourself out with it if you want. It’s just really  to see monster hunter after monster hunter have ‘cat eyes that can see in the dark.’ and ‘enhanced speed and strenght. Through magical mutations.’

Take some effort to read the post before replying, thanks.

Hopefully a concept like this can be executed without ripping off witcher. There’s loads of lore to back this sort of RP up, and as said earlier; it can be true quality if the hunters are below “Hero-level”.

I guess it comes down to preference, but I love to keep my RP toned down and realistic, despite being in Azeroth, and despite mainly roleplaying a… gnome. In fact, I can already see this concept bringing forth my favourite RP scenarios - travelling by foot to the destinations. God I hate using portals in RP. The path can be just as fun as the endgame, whether its travelling, investigating, plotting, planning, prepping or lolling.

I’m aware of a guild who did pretty much that, and some individuals. It’s not the sort of thing I want, either.

I may Rp a Paladin but even Paladins can have off days… And well, not be up to epic hero level standards. I definitely don’t Rp that.

Likewise.
