wowpedia.fandom DOT com/wiki/List_of_pop_culture_references_in_Warcraft/WoW#Movies_and_television
I think anyone who gets upset at pop culture references should spend a few minutes reading this and realise that the icon for AV marks are scooby doo’s collar and … just accept that the game was designed from the beginning like this.
Here’s a few:
He states while giving the quest, “Some people call it a moonsteel broadsword. I call it a swing blade.” This is an obvious reference to Billy Bob Thornton’s character in Sling Blade , Carl, who says almost the same thing about a kaiser blade.
South Park] — In Stratholme there is a boss called Timmy the Cruel. He yells his name again and again, similarly to the South Park character of the same name.
In Gadgetzan, Jhordy Lapforge (Geordi LaForge) stands next to a similar Transporter which serves as the destination for the Ultrasafe Transporter available to engineers of the Gnomish persuasion.
Scarface — In the Eastern Plaguelands, Tirion Fordring lived in a small house in the wilderness. When a monster approaches him, he got out his hammer and said, “Say hello to my little friend.” This is a quote from the movie. Removed in patch 4.0.3a.
Just a few “in your face” vanilla pop culture references that probably go over most people’s heads, but was directly in your face.
Just gonna add a few more… lol
The guards in Ironforge sometimes say they wished they had taken the blue potion instead of the red potion when a player asks for the location of the Alchemist, referencing the red and blue pill that Morpheus offers Neo.
The completion text for N [60D] Blackhand’s Command says, “Have fun storming the castle.” This is a quote from Max the Miracle Worker in the movie The Princess Bride. Removed in patch 4.0.3a.
Literally everything is a pop culture reference in vanilla wow, and this is just the list for tv/movies…
Your high horse, step down from it!
And more:
In Dire Maul North, there are a series of quests that involve the creation of a Inv chest chain 14 [Gordok Ogre Suit]; one of the components of the suit is an Inv potion 08 [Ogre Tannin], which is found in a basket. When you obtain the Tannin, an ogre (Gordok Bushwacker) comes charging down the stairs screaming, “It puts the tannin in the basket or it gets the mallet again!!”
[Clarice Foster] is a reference to the FBI agent in the film (Clarice Starling) and the actress who played her (Jodie Foster). (Until death do us part Quest)
In Dire Maul, after killing King Gordok and causing the ogres to become friendly, some ogres quote The Simpsons, such as, “I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T!”
Transformers — Grimlok, named after the leader of the Dinobots, may be found in Uldaman. Grimlok says, “Me Grimlok, king!”, one of the original character’s lines from the Transformers TV show.
Guys your precious RPG masterpiece might just be a pop culture jerk fest.
