So I wanna play Dark Iron Dwarf Warlock how do they make sense lorewise?

I tried playing a Void Elf or Human Warlock, but I just can’t be an Elf…or a Human. Its not my thing. I know it’s easier to make sense to play one.

However I have mained Horde for so long and Dwarf is the only race I feel connected within the Alliance faction, Warlock being my favorite Class.

So is there any Roleplayer/Lorewalker in Argent Dawn EU that could tell me how Dark Iron Dwarf “Warlock” makes sense? So I can feel more immerse in the RPG genre? Cheers!

Hello there! I’d say warlocks make perfect sense inside the Dark Iron clan, given that of the three, they’ve always been the more sorcerous of the clans. We’ve also met Dark Iron warlocks during questing, like Balgaras the Foul in Wetlands. There’s even a succubus serving drinks in the Grim Guzzler.

That, and the Dark Irons have always had more of a “Whatever means necessary” approach to combat compared to the other two, a mentality that was most recently shown in BfA when they summoned a Fire Elemental to go bowling with Bilgewater Goblins. A warlock is a good embodiment of this approach.

You could also play on the Dark Iron clan’s old connections to the Shadow Council.

Best of luck!

Out of all the dwarf clans, i’d say dark iron is the most likely to be warlocks.
not only do they have a long history of serving dark powers (willingly or otherwise), their society is also perfectly accommodating for the typical power grabbing warlock, you could say dark irons are the alliances goblins, as they share similar ideas such as ruthlessness efficiency, and a “you are either someone or no one” mentality.

Two examples to sell how ruthless Dark Irons are:

  1. The Ring of Law, is their main punishment, criminals regardless of crime are often subject to the rings punishment.
  2. Dark irons will typically bring their own food when invited to dinner with others, this is to ensure their food isn’t poisoned.

Dark Irons are all about practical ruthlessness, you could play a Dark Iron who somehow learnt fel magic through their dealings with the Shadow Council during the First War, someone who studied the tomes of Blackrock warlocks during the endless fighting over the Spire, a Dark Iron who only learnt it after they rejoined the Alliance.

It’s one of the more interesting aspects of the modern day Dark Iron Clan and their culture, that in spite of them having rejoined the Alliance and mellowed out by a significant degree via their renewed kinship with the Bronzebeard and Wildhamers, this still seems to be how they judged any criminal as late as BfA, as Harrold Grimstone still bears the title of High Justice.

Not a bad idea! I will keep that as a backup plan!

If all else fails, you could take more of a turn to destruction’s side and go with a pyromancer background, though from your description I believe you’re looking to be an actual “warlock” warlock ICly

Lest we forget, Destruction warlocks draw power from the Firelands so of course you can be a dark iron.

I didn’t know that! Cheers!

Another option if you want to make red fire (but evil) is Hellfire, which in The Last Guardian is created by one orcish warlock who cut his palm open to draw blood and he uses it as fuel to combust into a red demonic flame as opposed to the traditional fel green.

The in game warlock Hellfire ability does (or used to?) damage to the caster, draining your health to pulse the flames around you in AoE, so it fits the theme set in the novel.

The avenue of ‘Dark Sorcerer’ is always open, opting for shadow and flame over Fel and demons! :fire: :volcano: :purple_square:

Nice to see someone trying this character avenue! Good luck!

Oi! Lad - let me see yer face, yer the one from tha other post….

Memes aside, warlocks are incredibly fitting for dark irons as many have listed above.

But a key factor I think to dark iron as a race, is the theme; of uncontrolled ambition. They crave power, or money, success or glory. Hence why the summoned the ol’ firelord in the first place! :fire::volcano:

And having a clear disparity in the haves and have nots in their society (either born a royal or a senator if noble blood, or born under the boot of their taskmasters; good only to serve) The clear focus on greed is ever present as well; one that is more primordial and to an extent, evil than that of the capitalistic goblins.

Choices on the story and “why” your iron chose the powerful shortcut of fel, is incredibly diverse. But it always boils down to the core value of the race itself; that of an appetite for power. :fire:

There are plenty of reading you can do to get some insights, read on the old Thanes/the ten (part of the spirit council of Thaurrisan) Read on the old war, the story of dark irons origin more or less. And key notable characters as stated by others above!

Hope this little spewing helped! Fire and iron kinsman! :hammer_and_pick::volcano::fire:

You should make a long post about Dwarf lore imo! Brilliant thanks a lot!

Great thread guys. I too was thinking of making a dark iron warlock, as I already have a shaman and mage, and ‘destruction’ with its fire spells feels like it would be a good fit.

What’s great about playing a dark iron warlock is that fact that you’re essentially playing as a ‘double outcast’ - Distrusted for the race’s history, and then doubly distrusted for their specialization in magic.

Must be one gritty fella

I’d say a Dark Iron Dwarf warlock is a perfect fit. As far as the lore goes, the Dark Iron Clan has always been depicted as the predominantly sorcerers and spies clan. Magics is kinda their thing, just as the Wildhammers have their gryphons and some form of shamanism and the Bronzebeards are the honorable warriors. From vanilla all the way to BfA when you have Dark Iron Shadowcasters on the Arathi warfront, a warlock would fit right in, even more so a destro lock with their emphasis on fire (keep in mind warlocks use more than just fel).

I have always been fond of the warlock class, I have been on the fence about making an alt of a Dark Iron warlock and am unsure how to RP one out. I am not so far into the lore of that race.
