So if you sim frost now, it beats all specs easily

Why do they allow this to happen?

Its still the worse mage spec on ST. You simming the other spec with frost conduits and leggos or something.

sims dont matter because they don’t translate to real content 1:1

mage specs have never been this close to each other in the history of wow

Logs don’t necessary become a proof, because they also express the meme of the patch.
Maybe people are behind.

They are better proof than sims. Where are you getting your sim data from?

Run some sims for all specs. Start multiplying the patchwerks. You’ll discover something funny.

No thanks. If your gonna tell me frost is best on sustained 2 targets and sustained 5+ targets that’s not a surprise.

Yeah it’s on sustained, which can be a big handicap for the spec in many cases. But: there’s a very high probability that the 5man meme for the spec is based also on that because people may not fully comprehent how sims reflect (or not in this case) to reality.

Mage master class.

I think for the raid at least fire is a very competitive spec and actually beats frost for most bosses at the moment. M+ fire is a little weak in at the moment though, and I would go with frost due to the sustained aoe and ease of play.

Fire’s not weak in dungeons at all. It can beat frost depending on pull patterns. I love in mists for the burst on the 1st and 2nd bosses and is great if there’s any downtime between maze segments. Its great in DoS because of the travel time between packs, bursting down the big raging mobs and drills and also much better on the 2nd phase on the last boss, frost can often fail that dps check. I also prefer in ToP since there’s a lot of ST and not many big pulls.

Sim is generally a nice baseline for telling which spec is doing more damage on a fight where you hit the boss constantly.

But it’s not the whole story as usually quite a few fights are not like that, but generally specs taat do good damage on simulations also do well in real combat.

Still has the same clunky playstyle with bloated damage CD’s and Flurry isnt better than Frosfirebolt used to be.

Thing is that it IS similar to the sim, if the group is constantly pulling packs. This is not perfectly reflected in all instances but in a lot of them: the pulls are constant so frost has a clear edge.

It was Fire in S1 MDI. It’s Frost now.

Mage master class either way. Forever blessed.

In sims frost also beat every other spec easily in 9.0
And then people started to play it and noticed it was clearly the worst spec in 9.0, getting several buffs before being middle of the table.

Because it sucks when there are gaps of no fighting in encounters I guess.

lol

Sims ain’t everything dear friend. Gameplay mechanic is more important, and raids & most M+ prioritize burst dps over constant dps. So yes, frost does more on sims with a standing target that doesn’t have burst windows. But in in-game you need to move and your have burst-windows.

For frost to out perform fire/arcane (burst dps specs), it needs a much higher dps on sims to be the preferred spec in top-edge/progression content. Not to mention fire is not only bursty, but also has free-movement during it’s burst.

I suggest you join the mage Discord, to avoid such false claims in the future

No. M+ high keys have constant pulls in at least half of the 5mans so the sims aren’t that far off because the sustained DPS of frost mage is high on AOE and you can see it proven by how ALL the records lately had a frost mage in them. The mage discord is governed by narcissistic manchildren so don’t take everything they say too seriously.

Its common knowledge that frost is great on sustained aoe. They were a mainstay in the mdi whenever the pulls were large and consistant. Some keys fire was preferred, some keys they went with full physical with a hunter taking the mage spot. Frost is very strong but not out and out the best in all situations. Also the mage discord is great, we are lucky to have such good theorycrafters.
