So let me get this straight

I hit 70 and get full honor gear set because bg/pvp is life and anyone should have 12k honor saved up before dinging 70.
I farm random BG and solo shuffle to get CP and CP pieces.
Next I want to upgrade that CP gear, but wait…

I need flight stones and DRAKE crests to do that.
Don’t care much about pve/mythic/raiding, so I don’t have any of those crests, only some stones. I got a ton of WHELP crests though from bg.

So then I find out you can upgrade WHELP into DRAKE crests.
But in order to unlock that npc action, you need to equip a full upgraded 8/8 adventure set. You know, the type of set I don’t care about since my CP gear 450 base was easier, faster to get. So I vendored all adventure gear as trash.

So now I have to farm world quests for each piece of adventure gear.
Then farm more world pve/emerald dream stuff to get flight stones by the thousands.
To then upgrade adventure gear to 8/8, every single piece.
Then I can unlock the crest upgrade option at the npc?
And get the DRAKE crests that I need to upgrade my CP gear??
WHAT???
WHAT???

Has any dev had the thought cross their mind that maybe, just maybe, this is one of the most annoying and off putting systems imaginable??
Being forced to do stuff you don’t want to do, just to upgrade the gear you like and want?
And ps: hide all this info? There’s nothing ituitive about any of this, the 450 gear hidden achievement to upgrade crests is not commonly known in the game.

The upgrade path only affects pve play, it won’t scale higher in pvp. So you can simply ignore it if you only wish to pvp

You have to pve to get high pve gear, yes. Just like you need to PVP for pvp gear. Makes sense to me?

As Cylaris already mentioned, there is no need for you to upgrade the pvp pieces, that only upgrades the PvE ilvl.

Doesn’t matter if the piece is 450 or 473 baseline ilvl, it will scale to the same ilvl in pvp combat

Yea but I do DO some pve content so ofc I want to upgrade it as high as possible, who wouldn’t want the most power in both settings?

So you want free/easy pve upgrades so you can do your prefered pve content with less time investment, because you mainly do pvp? Thats not how this game works. If you want good pve gear, do pve content just like everyone else.

It depends on what you want to do. For world content, heroics, some LFR you won’t need to do anything or much at all. If you’d like to aim higher, you may need to focus on pure pve gear anyway, as versa is not necessarily the first or best stat to focus on depending on spec.

You’re a bit late in the season, in that sense I understand it may look like a mountain to climb. People still gear up neglected alts in a few weeks tho, so it’s perfectly possible even if it’d take you a bit longer with no flightstones reduction per upgrade

Then it makes sense that you need to do PvE content?

Upgrading your PvP gear is the wrong approach.

First, to get to 486 hero gear you would need to be gladiator or above. Quite the achievement… To compare it to PvE: Its as if I ask you to do +25s to get that gear. Instead you get it at a +17. Much easier.

Second, the stats on PvP gear are all wrong. Versatility is extremely weighted giving you a disadvantage in PvE even if you play a vers stacking class.

The least amount of effort to get PvE gear, is to equip PvE gear and have 2 sets of gear in your bags. And it solves your issue because by playing PvE you get the currency to upgrade the gear.

The easiest way to resolve this is to run some mythic+, if you are above 450 ilevel than a 17 should be quite doable.

Do this a few times and you have items that are on the hero track and plenty of crests to upgrade them with.

So, the main problem here is that “I wanna do PvE but I don’t wanna farm PvE gear”?
I wanna live in an affluent villa on Bali, but I work 2 days a week as a janitor.
