So many player actions are own-client-only :-/

It’s such a disconnected state by now. I can at least somewhat understand things like the fishing bobber sound, but by now it is much worse, and this goes even beyond toy effects on other players having been removed, or the utter sadness of the party grenade.
I realized this when playing on my trial account in addition to my main account.
Not only are manual emotes like laughter, cheering and such not heard by other players, but even stuff like the channeled Heart of a Champion animation is not showing to anyone else. So far I had combined that with my hearthstone for an interesting effect, not realizing that no one else was seeing what I saw.
Who knows what else is only happening on your side while you think others see or hear it?

This is a really sad state. World of Solocraft, more than ever.

100% agree! they should make interface option to toggle that on if person desire.
As for animations i think its for to not overload other people hardware with particles etc,so its kinda understandable

Think i heard that the gul’dan hidden toy (for all, not the DH only) cant be heard by any other player then the player who use it.

I think this is mostly to protect RP’er, tho, if thats the case, cant toy then have some “ban” (like, toys cant be used in arena), surely they can then tone down toys effect on a RP server :P? (or, make it something ppl can click off and on, just like player emote sounds).

Hell, atleast i can still run around, turning ppl into turkies

I’m still waiting for the proper horse hooves sound back :frowning:

Tbh I’m glad.
Spamming sounds and emotes and such can be used much too easy as a way to annoy or grief.

Pardon? I’m fairly certain that I still hear emotes. I’ve noticed that I don’t hear anything from non-grouped allied races though (friends going “check out the jokes of my new cool character I unlocked!” kind of thing), but maybe this is a misperception on my part and it’s for non-grouped characters at all. I don’t really interact much with players I’m not playing with, so wouldn’t know

“The Heartbreaker” doesn’t even make the own character cry audibly when used on it.

In some cases the display of especially complex effects is limited to the character using them for sheer performance reasons - to avoid situations where people might deliberately spam such effects in an attempt to grief other players who may not have super-beefy hardware in their computers.

That said, this is something very much worth having a friendly chat about: which effects/items/toys do you think should have more of a visual/audible effect than they currently deliver?

Wallahi why not fix the performance issues in the first place

I believe the choo choo train should be louder.

Tell them to make “emote sounds always on” option in interface settings. Thanks!

I’d like the train sound to be louder so I get more value out of my train tracks. Since I get about 3 globals worth before somebody wrecks it.

If emotes truly aren’t heard outside party any more, I would like that change reverted.

That.

rank 4 “show off” essences

This is not Guild Wars.

I don’t know why, but I find that sound so soothing. In ESO I only use horses for this reason and it’s such a contrast, from thunder hooves to the barely audible clippity clop in WoW.

This is a complex situation. The fishing bobber one is purely about convenience and treating fishing like a semi-AFK situation where you don’t have to watch. (Although to be fair, real-world fishing is probably not much different.)

The Heart of a Champion case is completely incomprehensible. Simple visual effects like poses should be global. And generally, if the client-limitation is unintuitive and can lead to (unintended) misconceptions, it should be refrained from.

Fading out mounts close to missions tables and such is a sadly necessary move, but could include the sound. I actually added mechanical mount sounds to my MuteSoundFile addon because too many people like to idle their rattle machines pretty much everywhere.
This doesn’t affect the fact there are still people parking their giant flappy-dragons all over the place, but that can be reacted to in various ways. (Not all problems are to be dealt with technologically. Although the cursor prioritizing of NPCs over players was a good thing.)

As for performance issues, I can’t think of one right now that falls into that category. But on my mage I can cast 5-6 portals over each other to create a fun little GPU overdraw crisis. Doesn’t need acting on though, since such creativity is very rare, and besides, the game design has some overdraw issues natively.

Emote sounds option would make some sense if enough people took issue with them in the first place. Related, and reported as issue: The shortcut for turning SFX off and on also turns vocal sounds back on even if they were disabled specifically. (It is a longstanding issue of game design to have NPCs say their standard lines all the time that WoW never got over, so I got MuteSoundFile on the job for some of those, too.)
This reminds me of how annoying the Grim Guzzler is because it spams a single dwarven laughter emote to imitate the goings-on in a bar.

Proper application of artistic means is apparently a bit of an art in itself. Sadly often user feedback is required where some own thoughtfulness could come to wise conclusions.
I’d likely be a good (art) director, but that’s not how the current system is set up, if you know what I mean.

Play a feral druid. After 8.3 you can hear everything around you apart from the sounds you make.
