As the title says, and I know I can find a similar topic on the US forum for example. But with this a really want to show how much I’m displeased…
I have a collection of standard physical copies for all WoW expansions, for all Starcraft 2 and Overwatch.
And this is how Activision repay their fans? Just cut them off, say nothing and make only expensive collectors edition with ***** reward?
I don’t need a physical disk, what I just need, what I just want is that box, even empty. With some nice art style, to be able to continue in my STANDARD collection.
Probably you don’t make so much money from the standard edition… I get this… But still, this game plays a lot of peoples(FANS) since Vanilla(not classic).
Me and few of my guild mates have a rule - You are not able to start exping your character until you post a picture of yourself holding the new expansion in your hands on our forum. We are just super surprised, that Blizzard is not answering our tickets about the Standard Edition Box. When will we be able to buy Physical form of Standard Edition? CE is way too big to put on a shelf with the previous expansion. CE doesn’t fit on standard book shelf. Pls, tell us when we will be able to buy Standard Edition, so I can make a picture and start exping, thanks.
These days tho, there are so fewer places to actually buy them. Game stores in the UK have slowly disappeared, so maybe the company doesn’t deem it financially feasible to produce a physical edition.
I used to run Game stores, and there was real excitement when we opened at midnight for a title…Alas those days are long gone.

Maybe Blizzard will realize how many people want to put Standard box on a shelf… I was too excited about getting the new beautiful box, I would never imagined, that they will not sell it.
Maybe like a lot of other game companies they have decided to respect the fact that a lot of the standard copies of the games if bought end up in people’s bins fairly fast after they have put the serial on the account and see no reason to keep the box. Obviously you and your fellow box collectors are an exception to that but the majority of people likely do not dispose of them properly and thus they end up in landfill taking a life age to decompose.
With the advent of high speed internet and so on there is no real need for boxed games save CE or launches of new titles. Which people keep usually when Legion came out some people I recalled kicked off on Amazon about it not having CD copy of the game and that was astounding as it was well over 70GB+ at that point and it would have to be put on well over 10 discs at that point I have a physical copy of GTAV and that is 9 alone without the updates needed online to get the online part up to date.
It’s down to resources and cost and the environment and the fact is the games industry no longer needs to produce or make standard copies of games and it’s an industry wide thing. Sadly you may have to move on from doing that.
is there no way to perhaps post self with a printout (minus sensitive digital info) of your confermation email?
im assuming that the auto digital programs at acti-bliz post out some form of confermation email if you buy the expansion (or are gifted it like me)
maybe instead you could use that?
i know its not as good, but they are all moving away from physical to digital, 100% when it comes to mmo types.
consoles too, are trying to scrap physical disks (because they dont have to spend a penny then, on manufacture only on development and creation)
i advise getting physicals while you can, and make sure you store them safe from heat and dust and pets/siblings/people in your family which the urge to clean/donate to charity your things/have a yard/garage sale.
my old games are my future pension lol. there wont BE one by the time they let me retire (age wise, if they ever do)
I’m pretty sure they know and there aren’t that many people anymore. The costs probably don’t outweigh the benefits. Sucks for those who want it, but digital seems to be the way.
have a word with the folks at your local GAME (if you still have one) they often get printables for PoS (point of sale) and since most of their boxes are dvd size or blueray you might be able to ask nicely for one of the slips when the rush is over
even if they dont have a physical to sell, they still need a physical display version to put on a shelf to attract customers after all.
