I am a bit confused… Did the Drakonkin in the Dragon Islands were there waiting for the aspects to return or did they moved in when the isles opened? in game dialogue would suggest the former but the isles seemed to be in a state of complete abandonment in the openining cinematic before the way was opened
They were there waiting. That’s why there is that little sideplot with the drakonid “rebellion”, where they aren’t happy with the dragons just coming in and expecting fealty after 10k years of self-governance.
So yeah, they just weren’t enough or good enough to keep all the dragon places up over the millenia. And then the Primalists, who for some reason have no problems with getting their numbers up, came from nowhere and started smashing stuff up even more.

I have no idea but I’m perfectly fine never mentioning these Isles again.
The Dragonkin were there, awaiting the return of the flights, and the engine. 10000 years, they have waited in one form or another, before the dragons returned.
