I feel silly asking this, but it just occurred to me earlier that azerite is not related to the elemental plane, so why are azerite elementals a thing?
My current theory is that these are corrupted earth elementals that have manifested out of azerite ore (that is how earth elementals appear right?), and have been changed by it accordingly. I feel like there was an answer in the wound quests but I cannot remember.
Could someone please point me to some info or share your theory?
I don’t think it’s your theory but an actual fact. Azerite causes earth elementals to go crazy.

That’s from beta but we have similar world quests in which we collect azerite from azerite elementals.

Azerite Elementals are just there as a new enemy, nothing more. As I mentioned, the only (shaman) elementals are the ones noted. The others, don’t look too far into it, because there’s nothing to see. They’re simply to bulk out the enemies in the game.

What’s this living Azerite liquid. Corrupted water elementals?
What the oozes? Sounds reasonable enough, if we have pollution elementals and Immersus.
They could be form of “lava elementals” infused with azerite. Or those might not be elementals at all rather living blood of the planet. Like with Deathwing, whose lava like blood chased after players.
