So where is Gul'Dan?

Still no sign in the maw or wherever he is?
Did the writers forget about him?

Gul’dan was ripped apart by fel-energy, that destroys the soul.
So it’s okay that he’s nowhere in the Shadowlands. Same is true for Varian.
There is no Soul left to be found.

Yeah, but the problem is, souls pour in to the shadowlands from all the realities, alternate universes and so on
So it is impossible, every Gul’dan and every Varian died by Fel, so there must be a verison of them (or more) around…
God, I hate SL Lore…

Except he is there, somewhere. Since Anduin clearly had a heart to heart with him. It’s just Blizzard inconsistency.

Judging by what we’ve seen of the Shadowlands this seems like a blessing.

Well, Kael’thas was highly infused with fel, yet we met him in Shadowlands :tipping_hand_woman: Also it’s not really confirmed if fel always destroys souls. It’s only stated that fel energy destroys soul to create power, and Varian’s soul wasn’t used for this purpose.
So… only Blizzard knows what happened to them :ok_woman:

He used fel-Magic, but he wasn’t torn apart by it.
Fel Magic (if used against you) uses the energy of your soul. So there’s not really something left to go to the shadowlands.
If you use it it corrupts, but your “soul” stays intact.

So If they don’t retcon it Gul’dan and Varian should not exist in the shadowlands.
But I’m not sure how it is with alternate versions of them, if fel magic kills the essence over all Universes or if somewhere in another timeline there are infinitely more Varians and Gul’dans around doing their thing.

I’m more pissed by Kael’thas running around after just a few years of castigation.
Other souls were tortured for aeons for less.

On topic: His soul could’ve (quite likely) ended up in the maw and used for some Mawsworn Shoulderpads or a Belt Buckle.

Never underestimate Blizzard’s ability to take a dump over all that is lore and consistency. Shadowlands is basically a trip down memory lane, a lame excuse to ravel in old dead characters.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if they add a “but” to the whole fel magic destroys the soul thing, just to get a cinematic reunion between Anduin and Varian. Their retcon van is big, supposedly filled with candy and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
