SoD Hunter pets: more families, looks and abilities

It would be great if Hunter pets received the following updates in SoD:

  • More pet/families to tame (even new unrelated to Retail): wyverns, gryphons, hippogryphs, chimeras, hydras, darkhounds, devilsaurs, pterrordaxes, diemetradons, etc.

I’d also love the ability to befriend dragonkin to have as pets: faerie dragons, whelps and drakes.

  • More looks and colors of existing pets such as those never used in vanilla but available. For instance, the white vulture, the black raptor, etc.

  • Giving pet abilities to the families with low or no abilities and give dash/dive to all pet families. For example, raptors don’t have dash and they only get their special savage rend in TBC so they could get something like that in SoD, Spiders have nothing besides bite and would need love, and so on.

Some of these suggestions could be tied to discovering specific manuals or ways in the wild to tame those pets, as per the spirit of SoD.

TL; DR. Give us more pet families, looks, and abilities. Make pets be able to be used in raid content, don’t leave so many pet families in the dust with low or no abilities, etc.

For the players reading this post, do you have any other suggestions related to hunter pets that they could add?

If all pets are the same what is the point of owning anything but a cat? :heart_eyes_cat:

Ideally Blizzard would make sure that they’d still retain unique characteristics and abilities but as it stands, cats are already one of the main options for DPS in PvE alongside raptors.

The idea is not to make most families pointless.

There is only one pet hunter ever need - boar

This would be viable if pets scale with attack power like they did in TBC. Else literally every hunter will run Lone Wolf in raids. Not to mention a talent that reduces aoe damage taken by 70-90%. In Vanilla pets are useless in instanced PVE content, and this will remain the case unless they add extra runes.

I’m going to assume that they are working on this considering that SoD is trying to make more specs and playstyles viable.

Yeah same. The runes we got at 25 are just the tip of the iceberg. In the end I think almost every gear slot has the ability to attach a rune.

One type of beast I forgot to mention could be… threshers! Perhaps tying them to some kind of quest or discovery that allows them to be able to float out of the water? Perhaps a personal bubble?

Kodos, giraffes, thunder lizards and zevras could be other options as well.
