Hi is it allowed to use software what comes with peripherals like razer/logitech mice/keyboards to automate things in game?
“one keypress one action” is the rule of thumb
generally speaking any macro that has delayed actions or conditions counts as automation
(speaking of third party software macros, not WoW’s macro system)
What about this then? Mouse Macro for Hunter Melee Weaving
It seems that the popularity of these kind of macros are growing rapidly.
if that is indeed what they are doing then it’s bannable
Doesn’t seem bannable to be honest from what we have seen until now tho. People are making videos, guides, discord groups about it where they discuss or improve their macros. The majority keeps saying that Blizzard can’t detect these macros so it’s fine to use them and the current meta seems to be shifting.
No, it’s automating gameplay.

if you press a mouse button and it triggers a series of actions with a delay between them (especially if they trigger GCD) then it’s 100% illegal.
whether they can detect them is another matter, since peripherals nowadays have programmable components so it’s not even a software that runs on your PC but the actual mouse that sends the commands. still illegal

So what can we do about this to prevent or stop it? The amount of players using this is growing rapidly the past weeks and they don’t seem to think it’s against any rules.
absolutely nothing
So basically we should embrace automation and slowly turn into semi-bots
well, to me it’s a bit weird that PvP players consider PvE a braindead, no-skill gameplay and at the same time consider one button “oneshot macros” and automation to be mandatory in high end gameplay.
Not being autodetected doesn’t make it legit. Blizzard explicitly said that any kind of automation, be it hardware, software, a mixture of both is against the policy, and is a bannable offense. Just because they don’t detect it yet, does not make it legit.
Two thumbs is better than one
Good luck OP
So are there any recent Blizzard sources regarding this issue? The general vibe right now reflects that it’s too hard for them to detect so players are just abusing it (or thinking it’s okay to do so).
Have they done a decompile and inspection of the server code? If not, they don’t know anything. Be wary of who you trust to say “this bannable action can’t be detected”.
Personally, I can think of ways to shortlist players who are suspected of running macros just by doing some log analysis. If the habit takes off and becomes well known, then expect it to get cracked down on hard.
Action automation is cheating, plain and simple. If there are enough cheaters, then there will be bans.
4 days ago should be recent enough.
Well there are plenty of players doing it now. There’s an obvious YouTube video with an announcement regarding it and basically inviting players to join. Many players doing it already, but I see no actions from Blizzard or any blue post/official response regarding it. Players even admit it on stream, there are Discords where there are open discussions about it too.
Would it be against the rules to place those links here?
Yes, it would be. Report them to hacks@blizzard.com instead.
