Can blizzard please tell me why is the game matching me up with people that have 50k hp or 0 cr and meanwhile im above 2k? its so demoralizing when you know you will lose because your team mate has 0 gear or 0 cr . I know its prepatch but crap like this is demoralizing can they give me proper team mates so i can enjoy the game?
i mean don’t get me wrong i love to see new faces in pvp but can they alteast match me up with proper player with equal gear or similar cr?
Check what the team’s MMR is each round, if it’s close or far away from your CR.

So in other words, they got close enough to your MMR to be matched up with you, despite having really bad gear. This is unfortunately a very real consequence to using the rating system they’ve used since wotlk, when they quit using the Elo system, for the rated shuffles.
Because the system Blizzard have used since wotlk, is based on the Glicko systems. It has a function that accelerates the rating gains and losses based on streaks, meaning the more you win in a row, the more destabilized your rating deviation becomes, and the quicker you advance in your rating. It’s the same function for losing streaks as well, the more you lose in a row, the quicker your rating will drop.
By “quicker”, I don’t mean your matches will go faster all of a sudden. It refers to you gaining more per match, or losing more per match, depending on which direction your streak is going.
So by using this system for the rated shuffle system where it counts each round as a match, even though it doesn’t count anything when someone else abandons, it means that if players finish their placement games which are already destabilized by default, then their rating will shoot up if they win 6 rounds, pretty darn fast.
So the next time that happens, check their rounds statistic by inspecting the player(s) with bad gear. If it shows a very high win percentage but few rounds played in total, then that’ll explain to you why their MMR is so much higher compared to what would be appropriate for their gear/skill.

Its not cool, but u can go 3-3 in those matches.
Im 1830 atm and when someone is in rly bad gear, i loose/win 3 rounds. Most of the times.
Because in solo u play with all of them and everyone is nuking low hp/gear target.
In DF wont matter anymore, cuz everyone will have similar gear snd hopefully more people will play solo S
Not exactly true. Tier sets will still be a thing, and the first 6 weeks of the season (starts December 14th in EU) you can only get tier set pieces from raids and vault. After 6 weeks, which is in January ofc, you’ll be able to craft tier set pieces from the catalyst that they’ll have in Dragonflight. Which you can probably expect will have a recharge timer or something like that, just like the SL catalyst required.
So it will take a very long time until it’ll become “normal” for everyone to have full conquest gear and the 4-set bonus. Until then, it’ll be more rare.
Yea, but they played it safe on the tier bonuses, like 10% increaSe damage for a full set.
That will inly make a diff in pvp at the highest level.
If ur just better lets say than 1800 in ladder that 10% wont impact you to reach 2k
Similar skill level, true, bonus tier set will make a small diff that could provide the means to win

Point is that it’ll lead to inherent gear differences in rated PvP, even in rated shuffles, for a very long time. You’ll probably have to wait 'til February before gear starts becoming more equal for everyone in places like rated shuffle. Even though the season starts in December.
Yea, true, but i guess alot of people that only play for pvp wont raid, and most will use catalyst.
Ofc. Best players will raid for mix max even if they hate the concept.

The key issue is that the catalyst itself won’t be available to anyone for 6 whole weeks from when the season starts. So that’ll be 6 weeks of nobody being able to craft tier pieces with the catalyst, after the season has already started.
And then you can likely expect those crafts to be timegated too, which is why I estimate gear differences will be like in SL s3 until at least February. The “lucky few” will have their tier sets, while the rest will have to wait for the catalyst. Just like in SL s3.
(Or maybe I should say it’s 5 whole weeks? The blue post states that it’s planned to be “unlocked” on the 6th week. Either way, it’s a hell of a long time to wait until you can actually start taking part in the meta the way it’s meant to be played.)
The only workaround i can see is to raid.
I like pve also, tough i agree its not fair for people that dont want to raid.
And ofc its not that easy to find a casual calm guild or pugg them; thats a problem also
Its clear that blizzard want to improve raid logs, and thats the reason they time gate the sets for everyone else.
A solution would be to let us convert 1item per week , after firsy week launch or max 2 weeks.
That would be fair for pvp ers and mythic+ players
But it is how it is, atleats we are rid of thorgast gated leggos, conduits , renown
The mmr/cr seems to be completely random. If they cant fix this, it could be easily fixed by copy pasting the basic ilvl the game gives you in non rated version, if you queue into it, but imagine blizzard doing logical decisions, lol.
It isn’t. It’s just not showing you your personal MMR, and so it becomes kinda difficult to keep track of the difference between your CR and MMR. Which in turn makes people track it by looking only at the CR, which feeds them the wrong information.
I do agree they should turn down the parameters in the matchmaking though, I said that a while ago. Some people felt like arguing with me on that though, but that’s what would make it better.
For solo to work good, there needs to be a healthy player base.
So that when ur personal mmr settles, u play with people if similar skill level -+20% max.
If there arent alot of players, the matchmaking becomes kinda random and i get 1800 with a new player that has inflated mmr , with 4 other members that are 1650 for example.
This may be am issue cuz its prepatch and are less players; it may go on to DF also if they dont implemwnt it right or change somth for the better.
The only conclusion i can take is that if ur just miles ahead skill wise and gear its of similar power u you would jump pretty fast on ur skill level
Keep in mind that people abandoning is reducing the accuracy of the rating system. It means that due to the frequency of people abandoning, many players gets to stay on ratings where they don’t belong for longer, so it increases the risk of facing players on ratings where they don’t belong when you queue.
It’s also related to the rating deviation thing I explained up above, where it sends people flying up in the rating when they win a lot, even if they don’t belong there, because it’d be like they had won a lot of games in a row during placement games in the normal ladder.
So yeah, the end result that you’ll feel is that quite a lot of players are playing on ratings where they don’t belong, in either direction. Especially since the matchmaking parameters are a bit off, as we’ve seen in the prepatch.
I just hope we will have decent player numbers.
The rating inflation will calm down eventualy, u cant cheat the system for to long, even if it has flaws.
Given that numbers are fine.
If theres a rly small player count, than yes, will continue to be a circus not fun for anyone.
I wouldnt like to be matched with 2.4k and above players because i know i”d be the worst, but also i wouldnt want to play at 1900-2k with random players that may play pvp for 2 days.
The incentive in pvp was always about slowly improving and facing similar level players.
If u play with worse players, u get frustrated and many high elos are toxic towards new breeds of players, if u get matched with players way higher skill than you, u get faceatomped and probably quit pvp rly soon.

This isn’t caused by the rating inflation. It’s caused by them designing it poorly.
That drives me crazy. I got easilly to 1750 hoping to cross 1,8k to upgrade quickly. At that point 5-6 matches in a row I am matched with 1,5k guys and get 0 rating.
This is waste of my time and demotivates from queueing
